As champions of health and safety, we find ourselves faced with a pressing issue that requires immediate attention. Many American schools are grappling with hazardous conditions, including exposure to harmful substances like asbestos, lead, and mercury; contaminated soil or groundwater; and deficient infrastructure causing mold growth and poor indoor air quality. These conditions pose serious threats to the health and well-being of our children, teachers, and staff, and obstruct the central goal of our schools: learning. AIHA is proud to support the recent reintroduction of the Rebuild America’s Schools Act (H.R. 5049/S. 2608). The Rebuild America’s Schools Act makes critical investments in the future of our country by funding HVAC improvements, plumbing upgrades, high-speed broadband internet upgrades, and more in our nation's schools through $130 billion in direct grants and school construction bonds. Our schools need Congress to act. Please take a moment to contact your Members of Congress and urge them to support and pass the Rebuild America’s Schools Act by using the AIHA’s Grassroots Advocacy Center: https://lnkd.in/e-QiecV3

I’m excited to announce… That I took a break. 🙂 I finally had the opportunity to take my first vacation in 8 years. In those eight years since, I; started college, graduated college, started my career, moved to Washington D.C. and spent more than 3 years here. Working 8 years straight in a political career with no time off will break you down, it will exhaust you, it will hurt you. This in addition to frequent unemployment, uncertainty, doordashing to make ends meet, and life changes and events. It all catches up to you eventually, nobody is invincible. I took 12 days off and put my phone on airplane mode for 12 days too, to travel to France 🇫🇷 and see Versailles, Paris, Saint-Cirq-Lapopie, Rocamadour, Figeac, the 24hrs of Le Mans, and to relax and chase after life. It was the time of my life, and I was so blessed to be able to experience this trip with a group of great friends and French natives. I learned to speak a little French, made new friends, took risks, created cherished memories, tried new things, laughed, cried, smiled, discovered new music, ate amazing food, and found peace. Oh, and I got some amazing photos. My heart was broken to leave after such an amazing trip. It felt like I spent months in France at the end of it all. But I came back feeling better mentally, physically, and emotionally. It was clear; I was long overdue for a vacation. I hope you never let yourself get to the point I did, and I hope you take your vacation time to explore, see the world, and recharge yourself. Work shouldn’t be your entire life. You have to make room for rest and adventure. You will be better for it, I promise. Work will be there when you get back.

A landmark moment for farm labor safety. The U.S. Department of Labor released their final rule on improving protections for temporary agriculture workers in the United States (H-2A), and I am over the moon to share that the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA)’s comments that were submitted in response to this rule were accepted! Not only were they accepted, we were referenced FIVE times out of hundreds of comments by the Department in full rebuke of Big Ag’s comments stating that issues and abuses of H-2A laborers are confined to a “few bad apples” in a landmark rulemaking that changes the foundation of H-2A workers’ rights, substantially increasing protections for them. Every worker deserves to come home healthy and safe, they deserve to be paid what they are owed, and they deserve to be able to report hazards and labor rights violations without fear of reprisal. For decades, the industrial agriculture industry has had a proven, documented, and well studied track record of unacceptable risk and abuse in the H-2A visa program, and yesterday, the U.S. Government took a stand and held industrial agriculture accountable. I am overwhelmed that our comments played a small but substantive part in the shaping of the department’s final rule on this topic. Read the full rulemaking below: https://lnkd.in/ejinjAUd
