Great advice for summer workers of all life stages.

For many, getting that first job out of college isn’t easy. What has your experience been like? Crafting a résumé with the right mix of part-time jobs, internships, and extracurriculars to make up for lack of experience can be daunting — followed by navigating the social mores of interviews and thank you emails. Not hearing from recruiters is demoralizing and frustrating. The US’s newest crop of young professionals is entering the workforce at a time full of contradictions. The still-low unemployment rate should have employers scrambling to fill empty roles, but slowdowns in hiring and layoffs at marquee companies mean entry-level workers are competing with each other for a smaller number of positions. Why summer is the best time for hiring and job searching! 🌞 As summer rolls in and things slow down at work, it turns out to be a great time to hire people or look for a new job. Here's why: ➡ Less competition: A lot of people think companies don't hire much in the summer, so there are fewer people applying for jobs. This means you have a better chance to stand out! ➡ Time for growth: Companies start new projects and need new people as the second half of the year begins. Starting your job search in summer puts you right in line for these opportunities. ➡ Easier to reach bosses: With lighter schedules in summer, the bosses and other decision-makers are easier to reach. This can mean you get quicker responses and faster job offers. ➡ More networking: Summer has lots of social and professional events. These can be great places to meet new people and find job leads that you wouldn’t find anywhere else. 🌞 Seeking a new role this summer? Here's how to standout in today's job market 👇 1️⃣ Apply for roles early, within 1-3 days of the job posting. Applying for jobs with a low number of applicants is a bonus, too! 2️⃣ Leverage your network. Let peers, mentors, and friends know that you are actively seeking a new role. 3️⃣ Spruce up your resume. Make sure your resume is tailored for the role to help your application seamlessly pass through the ATS system. 4️⃣ Connect with recruiters. Make contact with recruiters early to let them know the sort of positions you're looking for. They can keep you informed when a role opens up!

How is your job search going? According to the Morning Brew, US companies are still hiring. The US added 275,000 jobs in February, according to the government’s latest jobs report, which dropped yesterday. That’s more than was expected, signaling a still-hot labor market. But elsewhere, there were signs of cooling: The unemployment rate rose to 3.9%, and wage growth slowed down. This makes the report something of a choose-your-own-adventure tale for those hoping to use it to guess what Jerome Powell might be thinking about cutting interest rates. As summer approaches, many students are on the hunt for their next summer job. But are you making the same mistake I did during my bachelor studies? I only applied when applications were open, and as a result, I couldn't land a job. During my master's studies, I learned from my mistake and took a different approach. ✔I started my summer job search in the autumn by networking with the right employees in my companies of interest. ✔By establishing good relationships through meaningful conversations and attending events, I had information on the ground and attained strategic visibility. 😍Before the summer job roles were even open in the spring, I had assurances from multiple line managers and job opportunities from some of the biggest companies in Finland. So, what's the moral lesson? The biggest mistake you can make as a summer job seeker is applying only when a role is open.
