Contractors play an important part in our business, including safety. 🦺 At Kennecott, our partnership with Wheeler Machinery Co. is built on continuous improvement. “Safety is our core value,” Wheeler Machinery Vice President of Mining, Isak Stolen, says. “Everything Rio Tinto does for safety, we try and replicate — every improvement project, big or small, eliminates risks and keeps our people safe.” Since August 2022, Wheeler Machinery has logged 287,600 incident-free hours at Kennecott. “Eliminating live work, like manually checking pressures, is vital,” Isak explains. “For example, by integrating Bluetooth functionality our technicians may be able to complete these checks from their mobile devices. It's the same work, but without the risk.” "We're embedded at Kennecott like part of the Rio Tinto team, sharing every safety measure and improvement effort. That's how we get our people home safe every day." #FindingBetterWays #Safety

Rio Tinto perspective, safety partnerships like this highlight the importance of adhering to rigorous safety regulations and ensuring compliance with industry standards. Contractors must meet legal safety requirements and integrate best practices to protect workers. Legal frameworks should support innovation in safety technologies, like Bluetooth functionality, while ensuring accountability and risk management.
