How does carbon capture work at an aluminium smelter? In a standard smelter, fumes are treated to remove contaminants and dust. The remaining gases, including low levels of CO₂, are released through stacks and dispersed into the atmosphere. With carbon capture, the gases undergo additional treatment and the concentrated CO₂ is then safely stored underground or repurposed for other uses. Since 2020 we’ve been diving into carbon capture technologies. We recently partnered with Norsk Hydro to accelerate these innovations, bringing us closer to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from smelters. This builds on our work with Carbfix at our ISAL smelter in Iceland to advance carbon storage solutions. Read through to find out how carbon capture works 👇. #FindingBetterWays #CarbonCapture

Amazing! What do you do with the captured C02? I feel if not properly stored and reused, it will leak one day and do the damaged we are preventing the first place.

Are you capturing the CO2 with 1% content? Or is there a pre-concentration first?
