Last month marked my 6th year at Kendra Scott, and it’s hard to put into words how grateful I am for my time here. This year, I became the Co-Chair of our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging Council and finally met Kendra! Two things that have been on my bucketlist for years! To celebrate, here are 6 things I’ve learned from my time at Kendra Scott: 1. Despite what you may have heard, women actually want and are meant to work together! 2. Prioritizing belonging isn't just a "nice to have"; it's essential for creating a workplace that employees are proud to brag about. 3. A nonlinear career can provide a diverse skill set and enriching life experiences, opening doors to unexpected and rewarding opportunities. 4. Great leaders see possibility in their teams and inspire their people to innovate without fear! 5. We all have an innate desire to help others and should leverage our positions to improve our corners of the world. 6. Be like the Boss: Like Kendra, lead with heart and see the person behind every interaction. I can’t help but to feel that there’s so much more for me to learn and I’m looking forward to every lesson! Maceo Owens definitely put together an amazing day of workshopping and networking for us! The thought partnership, ability to hear what we have done that works with our community groups and also the simple things we could all start to implement, were keys to making this stop feel so engaging! One of my biggest take aways was the metrics, metrics, metrics...how am I truly measuring impact and engagement in a way that is meaningful, transferrable to meet the company goals, and still prioritizes building, nurturing and sustaining community first. Michael, a visionary leader in the disability services field, led the conversation with his forward-thinking approach to collaboration. He unveiled exciting opportunities for knowledge sharing, resource exchange, and partnership development, particularly in the context of upcoming social cause events. His vision for collective impact resonated deeply with all present. Ms. Chepkemoi, leveraging her extensive experience, added depth to the dialogue by emphasizing the critical role of aligning participant needs with established plans. Her insights underscored the importance of empathy in delivering exceptional care, ensuring participants feel genuinely supported and understood. The enriching exchange served as a valuable learning experience for the Cocoon team, who gained crucial knowledge and perspectives from these esteemed industry leaders. Deliberating upon Cocoon's core seven values during the luncheon further reinforced our commitment to excellence, empathy, and inclusivity, leaving a positive impact on all present. Today marks my 2-year anniversary at Walnut Unlimited. To celebrate the occasion, I thought I'd reflect on some of my favorite projects and moments along the way. 🏆 ✨ One of the best things about my role is the variety - one day I can be speaking to Gen Z about where they like to hang out and their opinions on luxury brands, and the next I could be discussing investment bonds with boomers - no two projects are the same. 🛍 I've been fortunate enough to work with a range of fashion and beauty retailers. From dashing around London visiting people in their homes to understand their beauty needs, to playing dress up with participants to learn what clothing items and marketing work best with new audiences. 🌍 Alongside this, one of the most rewarding parts is working on projects that have a deeper social or environmental impact. From supporting life-changing campaigns in the charity sector, to driving awareness around public health, playing a small part in these initiatives is very enriching. 😅 However, the qualitative life isn't all glam - I've sat in cold church halls gathering feedback on new sandwich concepts and pounced on less than impressed people in supermarkets to understand their shopping habits. 🌈 Nevertheless, the diverse range of people I meet is extraordinary - I learn so much from my participants, and not just in terms of the project needs. I am also fortunate to work with some amazing clients whose expertise and industry knowledge I admire. Finally, I couldn't forget all the amazing colleagues who inspire and support me every day at Walnut (Sunita Bhabra Lauren F. As I wrap up the final day at Ascend Las Vegas , I’m taking away more than just knowledge and insights; I’ve gained new friendships! #Community means different things to different people—whether it’s leveraging it for job opportunities, hanging out with friends, or expanding your network. For me, it serves as a reminder that there was someone for me to help me get where I’m ; and it’s my responsibility to #PayItForward - to #mentor the next generation navigating careers in the US, sharing both the opportunities and challenges I’ve faced. There was a lot of emphasis on the term “diveristy” and the importance of overcoming the checklist bias sometimes that can be associated to it. It’s so important to zoom out and focus on it as bringing together people with unique experiences, ideas, perspectives, cultures, and values. This approach helps eliminate potential biases associated to it. However, it all starts with building competence at its core A developing skills and knowledge is essential to fully benefit from diverse communities.
