The Bonda tribe, one of the particularly vulnerable tribal groups (PVTG) formerly known as primitive tribes, resides in small villages in the hills of Odisha’s #Malkangiri district. The Bonda tribe is renowned for its distinctive culture, unique traditions, and aesthetics. Their art is primarily expressed through decorative tools, utensils, colorful fabrics, and intricate jewelry, particularly crafted by the women. Bonda women excel in creating ornate bead and shell necklaces, bracelets, earrings, head decorations, and other jewelry items. Leveraging this innate skill and craftsmanship, Rise Against Hunger India has launched a special Social Enterprise Development (SED) project. This initiative aims to sharpen their design and production skills, scaling up the production of marketable items that can provide a steady income source for the Bonda women. Approximately 150 women have enrolled in the SED program. Earlier this month, over 30 participants showcased their skills and received training in a product development workshop in the Bonda hills, creating multiple items to be assessed by a master craftsman with expertise in quality product design. A market survey has been conducted to assess the potential of various products. A producers' collective has already been formed to manage the production, sale and profit sharing process for the members. #Empowerment #SustainableDevelopment #RiseAgainstHungerIndia #SocialEnterprise #BondaTribe #IndigenousArt
