Observing the politics, emotions and theatrics at play every time there is a change in leadership; people react either with enthusiasm or strong resistance. Our reaction to new leadership is based on the reputation of the existing leadership, combined with expectations and hopes of improvement from the new one. Either way, the introduction of new leadership and political parties brings with it a weird mixture of uncertainty, combined with hope and excitement. If we do not like our leaders we must banish them, If we do not like our government, we must fight to change it. If we do not like the way things are going, we must speak out and stop it. Building a great South Africa is the job of each one of us. We can never entrust that to just a few people seated in the 400 comfortable seats of our BURNT parliament – but we can direct them.

The Leadership PATH less travelled Leadership requires that you walk where there is no PATH, so you can leave a trail that others can follow. I visited OR Tambo heritage house in Lusaka recently and was deeply impacted by the risks that African leaders were willing to take even though they did not know for sure what the outcome would be. OR Tambo was in exile in Zambia for 22 years, and in those arduous years he never knew for sure whether he would ever return home alive . I can tell you with absolute certainty that you don’t need to be sure to succeed. Many great endeavours die at the altar of certainty. There was never any certainty and there never will be. Actually, history proves that certainty is over rated because you can achieve your purpose with or without it. What you do require is bravery… the willingness to step out even though you don’t know where your feet will land. OR Tambo died on the 24th of April 1993, exactly a year before South Africa’s first democratic elections on the 27th April 1994. He never got to see the day that he spent his entire life fighting for. He sowed seed for fruit he never got to reap. I wonder how many of us are willing to do what is right even though we might never directly benefit out of it. I salute this stalwart for taking the leadership PATH less travelled. Location : OR Tambo heritage house, Lusaka, Zambia. I highly recommend the visit 👌

🇳🇬Nigeria is a nation brimming with potential, yet it continues to face challenges such as unemployment, poverty, and underdevelopment across various sectors. At the heart of these challenges is the urgent need for visionary leadership capable of driving change and creating sustainable solutions. Unfortunately, many young Nigerians lack the leadership training, mentorship, and opportunities needed to step into roles where they can truly make a difference. Youth make up a significant portion of our population and are the backbone of our future. Yet, too many of our youth remain disengaged, discouraged, or trapped in cycles of mediocrity due to inadequate investment in their personal and professional growth. Without deliberate efforts to empower and develop young leaders, Nigeria risks missing out on their immense potential to transform society. This webinar, holding at Osun State University, is a call to action. We seek to equip Nigerian youth with the tools, skills, and mindset needed to lead transformational change in their communities and beyond. Join us as we explore how transformational leadership can unlock multisectoral development and inspire the next generation of leaders to rise above challenges and drive progress.

A Lesson in Leadership: Be the Change-Maker. Yesterday, we had the privilege of touring the GIMPA (Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration) campus in Accra, led by Mr. Erasmus, a dedicated YALI staff member. As we walked through the historic premises, he shared captivating stories that left a lasting impression on me. One story that stood out was about a former president of Ghana (His Excellency John Dramani Mahama), who was the first sitting president to pass away while in office. He is remembered as one of the best leaders Ghana ever had, leaving a legacy of impactful leadership that continues to inspire. Another remarkable story Mr. Erasmus shared was about GIMPA itself. He pointed out a structure that once stood alone on the campus. The institute was on the brink of decline until one man—Professor Adel—stepped in to make a difference. Leaving behind a comfortable life abroad, this professor returned to Ghana when he heard that GIMPA was struggling. He transformed the institute, building the beautiful structures we see today and reviving its reputation. His actions not only saved GIMPA but also set a precedent for excellence and commitment to public service in Ghana. These stories reinforced a powerful lesson: it takes just one person to restructure a system and bring about the change that is desperately needed. One visionary leader, one committed individual, can reshape the future of an institution, a community, or even a nation. The impact of such leadership is profound and far-reaching. As I reflect on these lessons, I am inspired to be that change-maker—to step up, take responsibility, and drive the positive changes needed in my field and beyond. Whether in business, governance, or community service, each of us has the potential to be that one person who makes a lasting difference. Let’s embrace this responsibility and work towards a future where our contributions are felt and remembered for generations to come.
