Who likes needles anyway? A few years back, when it was time for my kiddo to get a vaccine shot, I knew it was going to be a battle. He had always been terrified of needles, and everyone in that doctors office knew it. But one nurse found a way to make it easier, this time! 💉 They leaned down and asked, “Who’s your favorite superhero? What would your superhero do?” Julio thought for a second, wiped his tears, and said, “Martin Luther King Jr. … and he would take the shot.” 🦹🏾♂️ The nurse and I laughed, and they said, “I’ve never heard that one before!” As we left (on the way to get ice cream), I couldn’t stop thinking about why Julio chose Martin Luther King Jr. He tied taking the shot to his sense of duty—to do what’s right and protect those around him. Even at such a young age, he understood the importance of making choices that help others. Kids get it!!! 👊👦🏽 The amazing thing about a superhero like Dr. King is that, unlike Storm, Wonder Woman, or Superman, we can all have his superpowers. He once said, “The time is always right to do what is right.” That’s what this work is about—doing what’s right, even when it’s hard or unpopular. Special Purpose Credit Programs and place-based solutions help underserved communities access homeownership, build wealth, and create generational stability. As we uplift the underserved we uplift our nation, and THAT is good for #allofus 🏦 As leadership and policies shift: ⚡ Will we keep investing in these programs with the same energy? ⛓️ Will their connection to DEI make them more vulnerable to shifting priorities? 💡Dr. King reminds us that every action matters. Whether it’s championing these programs, driving initiatives, or simply speaking up, we all have the power to create meaningful change. What will you do today to make a difference? #MLKDay #EquityInLending #SpecialPurposeCreditPrograms #UnderservedCommunities #Homeownership #Leadership #GenerationalWealth

I'm feeling the weight of history today. What about you? In this blog post, I explore how the overlap of Inauguration Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day, is an opportunity to ground ourselves in the lessons of the past and recommit to Dr. King's goal of the Beloved Community. What I hope you take away from reading: - The Beloved Community is not just an abstract ideal, it's a goal we must commit to and can achieve together - Building the Beloved Community will involve empowering young people as future leaders and changemakers - Supporting long-term collaboration and investing in systems change is necessary to ensure everyone can enjoy a world where everyone can thrive regardless of race, gender, income, or neighborhood As we face these challenging times, let's hold onto Dr. King's vision as our North Star.
This Martin Luther King Jr. Day, our Executive Director, Dennis Q., reflects on the parallels between our mission at the Raikes Foundation and Dr. King Jr.'s goal of achieving the Beloved Community. We all have a role to play in building a better future for young people. Where are you planning to start? Read Dennis' blog post: https://lnkd.in/gPcDdu9Q

**Martin Luther King Jr. Day: A Call to Service and Unity** On this day honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we’re reflecting on his powerful message of hope, justice, and collective action. Dr. King believed that "Everybody can be great because everybody can serve. You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love." Today is a **National Day of Service** that challenges each of us to make a meaningful difference in our communities. Whether through volunteering, supporting local organizations, or simply showing compassion to those around us, we can continue Dr. King's profound legacy of social justice and equity. His words remain as powerful today as they were decades ago: "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny." How will you honor Dr. King's memory today? We encourage everyone to: - Engage with local community organizations - Commit to serving others - Reflect on how we can advance equity and understanding #MLKDay #DayOfService #SocialJustice #CureStaffing

This is exactly what “virtue signalling” looks like. The era of genuine leadership is about what people who work for you actually say about you. We can’t give some random theoretical concepts.
Today, we honor the life, work, and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by embracing his call to serve those in need, support our communities, and build bridges rather than barriers. GDIT employees are volunteering and hosting food drives in Falls Church, VA and Bossier, LA for the #MLKDayofService! #GDITCares

Building on Dr. King's Dream: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Commercial Real Estate This Martin Luther King Jr. Day, as we reflect on Dr. King’s vision for a society of equality and justice, it's worthwhile to consider how these principles apply to the commercial real estate (CRE) sector. Dr. King once said, 'The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.' In the context of CRE, this challenges us to examine: Diversity in Leadership: How diverse is the leadership within our industry? Are we actively promoting leaders who reflect the varied backgrounds of our society, ensuring that decision-making tables are as inclusive as the communities we serve? Equity in Opportunities: Real estate has long been a powerful tool for wealth generation. Are we ensuring that opportunities to invest, own, or manage properties are equitably distributed? How can we support minority-owned businesses and developers to thrive in this space? Inclusion in Development: When we design, build, and manage properties, are we considering the needs of all community members? From affordable housing to inclusive commercial spaces, how can our projects honor King’s dream of a community where everyone has a place? Economic Justice: Dr. King fought for economic justice. In CRE, this translates to advocating for fair wages, supporting local businesses in our developments, and ensuring that our projects contribute positively to economic mobility in underserved areas. Education and Mentorship: What steps are we taking to educate and mentor the next generation of real estate professionals from underrepresented groups? Are we providing the tools and opportunities for them to succeed? As we honor Dr. King, let's commit to actions that reflect his ideals. By fostering an environment in the CRE industry that champions diversity, equity, and inclusion, we not only build structures but also communities of opportunity and shared prosperity. Let's use this day not only to remember - but to act - ensuring our industry is a beacon of Dr. King's dream where 'all of God's children, black and white, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be represented and empowered. #MLKDay #CommercialRealEstate #DiversityAndInclusion #EconomicJustice #EquityInRealEstat
