The Great Ring of Hanoi is a visionary project and proposal for the creation of a large linear ring park for the Vietnamese capital city, of such dimensions as to be visible even from space (like the great wall of China). It is a project that takes inspiration from the Great Green Belt of London, a fundamental piece in the culture of urban and regional planning worldwide. In this particular case the green belt really takes the form of a large green ring, with a radius of 14 km that starts right from the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum in the center of the capital and with an average width of 1.8 km. It is a plan for urban forestation and protection of agricultural areas along the ring, which is connected by a green transportation system and a long cycle path of 88 km, the entire length of the ring. The large linear park is also served by 3 marinas, thus exploiting the vast river network of the capital city. I’ve been in the bustling financial hub that is Hong Kong for the third leg of the Discover NEOM Asia roadshow. As much as I’ve been surrounded by skyscrapers, Hong Kong actually has around 40 per cent of its territory made up of parks and nature reserves. It also offers a strategic location with many major cities reachable within four hours flying time. These are benefits which ring true for us at NEOM, where 95% of our land and sea will be protected for nature, and we’re six hours from 40% of the world at the gateway to both East and West. We’re not creating the land of the future on our own – we are seeking partners who can help to shape it with us. I had the privilege of attending the 9th edition of the World Cities Summit (WSC), held at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre. This year, government leaders and industry experts from over 90 cities worldwide exchanged views on the future of urbanisation, through plenaries, lightning talks, and mayoral roundtables. The summit’s main theme revolved around the million-dollar question: How can cities take a long-term view and harness innovation to become smarter, more resilient and regenerative? The Deputy PM of Singapore shared three guiding principles: 1. Cities must empower innovation by investing heavily in the R&D of urban solutions and sustainability domain. Singapore is going all in by committing a whopping S$28 billion to its RIE2025 Masterplan! 2. Cities should anchor innovation in people-centric impact. Singapore’s therapeutic gardens using sensory horticulture to promote relaxation for seniors is a compassionate approach for its “super-aged” society. 3. Cities must build cross-border collaborations and partnerships for a collective future of greater liveability and sustainability. EU has selected Aalborg as one of ten mentor cities👩🏫 The selection is part of The European Commission's Intelligent Cities Challenge (ICC) 2023-25.   The ICC has chosen a first round of ten mentor cities which include six different EU countries and one international city.   - Aalborg (Denmark) - Aarhus (Denmark) - Amsterdam region (The Netherlands) - Dortmund (Germany) - Gothenburg (Sweden) - Espoo (Finland) - Lisbon (Portugal) - Mannheim (Germany) - Porto (Portugal) - Toronto (Canada)   The mentor cities were chosen based on their extensive experience and specialized expertise in sectors and themes supported by the ICC.   In Aalborg’s case within: Construction, Energy, Mobility, Tourism, Culture/Creative.   Each mentor city will utilize its proven history to fulfil an essential role in guiding and assisting the 65 core cities in ICC.   What is ICC? The Intelligent Cities Challenge (ICC) is one of the European Commission's largest initiatives supporting European cities in their green and digital transitions.
