Unlearn your MBA Marketing at our firm I continuously interview candidates who seek to join our firm. Every time I speak with an MBA graduate, I am reminded of how much "old stuff" is still being taught. The world of marketing in eCommerce has changed dramatically over the last 10 years. Yet candidates still tell me only about Kotler and Al Ries. Consumer insights have moved well beyond the 4 Ps and traditional positioning...as I explain in the pic above. Bonobos quickly reached $100 million in sales in men's wear by being dramatically different from J.Crew. Dollar Shave Club achieved $400 million in sales by breaking every rule that Gillette had established. To some extent, our team in Chennai breaks several rules for the brands we build at OJCommerce. The innovations and tactics we employ do not come from bookish knowledge; they arise from being street-smart and having an innate understanding of data-driven consumer insights. As we seek to expand our team, here are key qualities we are looking for: - Mndset of an “apprentice” who wants to learn the trade of American eCommerce. - A “digital-first, analytics-first” solution creator. I plan to write a few more pieces about what we are looking for— hopefully inspiring you to join us at OJCommerce. Links for available positions at our firm are here: https://lnkd.in/gtUvk5KC

In mid-July, I completed my sales internship at L'Oréal India, and it has been an incredibly transformative experience. Let me share my journey and insights. I joined L'Oréal as a Sales Intern this summer. During my interview, I was asked if I was comfortable working in the field under extreme weather conditions. I quickly agreed, not fully realizing the extent of the challenge. In mid-May, I was assigned to Ghaziabad, West UP. Those familiar with the NCR region will understand the intensity of the weather I encountered. There were days when my Bisleri bills exceeded my lunch expenses. I found myself showering thrice a day: once in the morning, once under the scorching sun, and once upon returning home from work. As a sales professional, the weather does not dictate my responsibilities (unless it becomes extreme). To be brutally honest, I initially found the work unappealing. For the first ten days, I vented my frustrations to friends and family every evening. I felt I wasn’t cut out for this and was disappointed. However, during one market visit, I successfully facilitated several sales, engaged confidently with shopkeepers, and negotiated favourable deals. That day marked a turning point for me. The experience empowered me in ways that are difficult to articulate. From then on, I chased that feeling. Although some days were less productive, I persisted, driven by the positive feeling from that fulfilling day. I am proud to say that I have overcome my cribbing and developed a strong affinity for sales as a profession. I am so grateful to everyone who has supported me so far in this journey. To be perfectly candid, the subpar food at my PG in Noida left me constantly fatigued. I often resorted to junk food to satisfy my hunger. Eventually, I moved to an apartment with my friends in Delhi, which significantly improved my health and energy levels. It turns out that my main issue was nutrition rather than the heat. Another misconception I had about sales was its simplicity, assuming it was merely about numbers and negotiation. However, sales encompasses much more. It involves Marketing, Finance (handling numbers and mental math), Operations (inventory optimization and supply chain management), Strategy (setting targets and planning), Human Resources (managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders), Technical skills (proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Power BI for advanced data visualization), Retail Management (maintaining POSM and merchandising), and much more. I believe it is pretty reasonable to think that mastering sales gives you a bit of expertise in almost every field. P.S. - Here’s a picture of me on my way to the first day of my internship.

As an owner or employer, if you have a plan to employ 10 people in your organization, give at least 2/3 freshers a chance. You should be given a chance to catch the golden deer named experience. Who knows, those who are being rejected for lack of experience, your organization may benefit more from their creativity tomorrow. #apparelindustry #merchandising

When I was 24, a fresh MBA graduate without experience, I joined distribution sales. I was made to manage a business worth $3 million annually for HP Inc. I was highly paid. I had a team of 16 people reporting to me, some of them twice my age. I had folks standing up when I entered their offices, and screaming at peons to quickly bring their best "kadak chai" Guess what It was a horrible experience. I had no idea what I was doing. There I was, a naive metro-raised kid, “all polished”, dumb, placed in a world that was full of hardcore seasoned traditional distributors. They chewed up and spit out people like me for breakfast. Same time I moved to a small town, without friends, and it felt really lonely. I told myself that I needed to "build myself" so i must not break. It was a poor call and a poor philosophy. It is subjective, but when I look back, my lesson's this: 〰 Don’t climb the tree when you’re a fish. It is not going to work. 〰 We all know who we are. Even though our surface selves, influenced by parents, friends, and TV shows, may convince us otherwise. 〰 Deep down, when no one's looking, you know who you are. Or atleast hints of it. I’ll end the preachy talk, but I’ll say this: even if it may seem counterintuitive, try to be as close to that self as you can. Because it cannot be exact. But it can be tried.

Do Companies value the field sales marketing executive? Well, its easy to work under Full power Air Conditioners, But Do you find it OK to work under 39 Degree C Temperature Daily ? The Job roles of well dressed and Office work are always appreciated and Flaunted!!!! But what about those who are the really originating the wealth for an organization and are the face of the brands too in the market. Are they valued by the company? Some might say, “ AREE, THEY ARE THE SALES PEOPLE ONLY!!!!!!!!!! Should we value them or respect them, as the office employees are respected and appreciated? The Answer is Yes!! Eventually they deserve more respect and appreciation in terms of monetary as well as non monetary value. But why??? Revenue Generation: Reaching sales goals and generating income are the direct responsibilities of field sales executives. Their capacity to spot possibilities, build rapport, and seal agreements has a direct effect on the bottom line of the business. Customer connections: Field sales representatives are essential to the development and upkeep of customer connections. They build trust, comprehend client demands, and offer tailored solutions through in-person contacts, which boosts client happiness and loyalty. Brand Representation: Field sales representatives act as representatives of the business's brand. Customers' opinions of the brand are shaped and purchasing decisions are influenced by their professionalism, product expertise, and communication abilities. Market Insights: Field sales personnel deal directly with clients and prospects as the company's front-line representatives. Strategic decision-making and marketing endeavors are informed by the valuable market data they get, which include rival actions, customer preferences, and developing trends. Market Expansion: Increasing the company's market presence is a major responsibility of field sales executives. They discover unexplored markets, find new sales prospects, and create plans to enter new markets or geographical areas. We've heard it said that although sales and marketing make a lot of money, most people are unaware of how it's made. It must be gained via diligence, everyday field labor, and daily perspiration. Posted by Marketing and sale Enthusiastic who worked hard during her summer sales internship on the roads of Mumbai last year and her hard work was appreciated and deserved. #sales #marketing #advertsing #branding #opportunites #IT Sales
