In our 2023 Survey of Women’s Health in the ACT, we asked people about their experiences of menopause. Many women told us they lack information about menopause and are unable to find useful support through common health services and other channels. More rarely, those who were able to find a medical professional equipped to help with symptoms of menopause explained how beneficial this help was for them. We drew on the survey and the voices of women who responded to prepare a submission to the Senate Inquiry into issues related to menopause and perimenopause. In this submission we recommended steps the Australia Government could take to improve menopause experiences, including: ✔️strengthening the health workforce ✔️considering improvements to leave entitlements under the National Employment Standards, and ✔️supporting information and navigation resources for symptoms of menopause. Only 14% of menopausal women in the UK are prescribed HRT, and in some areas it’s as low as 2%.* If you’re experiencing symptoms or would like to discuss starting or adjusting your HRT with a healthcare professional, this can sometimes feel daunting. Dr Louise Newson, founder of balance and menopause specialist says: ‘I feel very strongly that it’s about having a choice and knowing that there are options available. Women can empower themselves, they can get information, and they can advocate for themselves.’ We’ve created a six-step plan to help you do just that. Experienced leader of global causes and people. Healthcare advocate for aging women and men. Nonprofit whisperer, board coach and management consultant. Interim executive.
🌟 Proposed Bill Puts Spotlight on Menopause and Women's Health 🌟 Around 75 million women in the U.S. are dealing with perimenopause, menopause, or post-menopause. Yet, only 30% of residency programs offer formal menopause education. Senator Tammy Baldwin and a bipartisan group are taking action with the Advancing Menopause and Mid-Life Women’s Health Act. This bill aims to bolster federal research, enhance healthcare training, and promote public health awareness. Halle Berry’s powerful advocacy underscores this: Menopause isn’t a taboo. It's a phase every woman deserves to navigate with dignity and support. Check out the full article below! #Menopauseawareness #Womenshealth #Healthcare https://lnkd.in/ertFhGBB

Here are some interesting stats from our recent survey. When we asked women aged 37-61 from Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban, they revealed that: - 61% are experiencing menopause symptoms - 35% were unsure (One participant even stating “I didn’t know there was such a thing as perimenopause” - AGE 45) Why do we think this is the case? Well, many women did not initially attribute the symptoms they were feeling to menopause. For many years, the topic has been considered taboo or has been stigmatised leading to an immense lack of awareness or information. With a general feeling of being taken by surprise, there is so much that is not known. We’re here to change that by empowering you with trusted information and menopause care through virtual consultations with our empathetic, dedicated practitioners. Last year from the Greens Website Not only are we dealing with Family Violence, glad it is being highlighted in the media and rallies across Australia. Support is needed to manage and gain appropriate medical care for Perimenopause and Menopause symptoms The Greens have secured support for a Senate inquiry into menopause and perimenopause to understand its health impacts and its economic impacts on women and people who menstruate, and the impacts on the broader economy. Lines attributable to Greens leader in the Senate and spokesperson on women Senator Larissa Waters “People experiencing physically and mentally debilitating menopause and perimenopause symptoms have for too long been forced to suffer in silence. “Women are sick of being invisible and their health needs neglected. We need evidence-based policies to reduce the impact of menopause and perimenopause on women's participation in the workforce, and the adequacy of existing leave entitlements. “We also need more awareness both by GPs and by patients of the symptoms of peri and menopause, so that people know what treatments are available to them, and make them affordable. “The gendered cost of treatment is yet another financial burden faced by women, on top of the costs of a lifetime of menstruation. “I am pleased this inquiry received consensus support to be established, and I look forward to hearing from individuals, health professionals, employers and experts about that federal funding and policies need to be developed to support women in this phase of life.” Larissa Waters #Greens #Senate #Enquiry #perimenopause #MenopauseSupport #womensupportingwomen #womenownedbusiness #2024trends #violenceprevention #family #Victoria #australianowned
