Banks and Our High Streets Catching up with articles that I saved to read, here is one written at the end of last year about banks, posing the question: Will banks completely disappear from our high streets? Our high streets have changed beyond measure over recent years, hammered by a long period of closure during the pandemic, this added pressure to a decline in high street shopping due to a rise in internet shopping that has gnawed away at out high streets like a silent disease. Many small to medium sized businesses have fallen by the wayside with others hanging on at great personal cost, many only able to keep afloat because of their ability to adapt and have been kept open by those of us who value independent businesses and are prepared to vote with our feet to keep them open. Consumers are fickle - they want and expect quality, great service and instant provision and yet want everything on the cheap. If we want things we must be prepared to do what it takes to support them - to include paying a fair price. If we want service, we must support human related interaction otherwise humans will go and machines will take their place. If we want quality we must be prepared to pay for it. understanding that cheap comes at great cost to animal welfare, working conditions of employees and environmental damage. If we want a high street we must use the services in the high street in order to keep the doors open. Doors and branches are closing and the effects are being felt. Let us not destroy something that is a part of our heritage and more importantly a part of our socialization and what it is to be human. I have read of Ghost Towns with endless closures of post offices, banks, chemists and pubs - the life being squeezed out of our nation as many peer into their phones and live in an alternate world driven by computers. Not but a decade ago our high streets were bustling, loneliness was not the problem that it has now become, and people could get their needs met through independent butchers, small artisan businesses and face-to-face interactions. We are in recession, the landscape of our local community is unlike anything many of us have known, its lifeblood has been all but sucked out. The multiples fight for market share as they kill the producers who cannot make a living on the prices paid for their goods and services. Who will grow our food, who will produce all the cheap things the consumers demand, who will fill all the empty spaces vacated by the lifeblood of our communities. So much more than branch closures is at risk. Life as we have known it hangs in the balance! https://lnkd.in/e4XSXgVU I will post an image of an article below in the comments entitled: Ghost town UK - this article featured in the Daily Express, December 25th, 2003!

I continue to be astonished at how many small business owners tell me they do not know who their banker is at their bank. They’re tired of it. And they want a true relationship, customer service, wise counsel, great products, and a clear path forward toward their goals. In other words, they want ServisFirst Bank. Call me. Let’s start a conversation. #smallbusiness #commercialbanking #orlando #smallbusinesslending

The most under-appreciated way to meet a new client in the #payments industry? A referral. A few people in my network were kind enough to send referrals in the direction of Secure Bancard recently. Mostly, these referrers have a processing relationship with us, and they introduced someone else who could benefit from the way we do business. There’s a mistake I think we make when we think about referrals: We stop at the referral itself as the thing we should appreciate. But we miss out on what else this referral is telling us about the person who sent it our way: ✨ They’re willing to share one of their secrets to success with someone in their own network. With so much competition in payments, this seldom happens. This shouldn’t be taken lightly. It’s a big deal. ✨ The referrer is willing to stick their neck out there for you by risking their own reputation. There’s a chance this referral could go terribly, but the referrer thinks so much of you that they’re willing to take that chance. That’s also a big deal. A referral is much more than a new business opportunity. It also says a lot about how much the referrer thinks of you. And it should never be taken for granted.
