Interesting news from the NHS England GRAIL Galleri test in the UK - accuracy in the article given as 56% One of the main issues I think with Galleri is its model trained on late stage disease, and is a “fixed” panel. By comparison look at the recent results from Guardant Health and Exact Sciences where their CRC early detection assays pushed > 80% accuracy (COI - I am co-I in Guardant Health CORRECT-MRD-1) We need broader WG assays trained on early disease - we are developing a Nanopore assay with Isidro Cortés Ciriano which combines SNV, CNV, SV, Fragmentomics, Motif analysis and epigenetics (5-mC and 5-hMC) to build the best model possible. https://lnkd.in/eF8QN-q4

NEW REG Publication! We are delighted to share our latest publication, “The Interstitial Lung Disease Patient Pathway: From Referral to Diagnosis”, now available in ERJ Open Research. This study was led by REG researcher Dr. Graham Lough, alongside Principal Investigator Dr. Pilar Rivera Ortega. The research aimed to explore and compare the ILD patient pathways across specialist and non-specialist centres, as well as between different regions. The study focussed on key areas such as referrals, caseloads, diagnostic tools, multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meeting practices, and resource availability. The study was based on a comprehensive global survey, receiving 363 responses from ILD specialists and healthcare professionals across 64 countries. The findings highlighted significant differences in diagnostic pathways, with disparities in access to resources (such as antifibrotic therapies, clinical trials and specialist expertise) across centres and countries of varying income levels. 📢 Curious about the patterns of goals of care among patients with advanced cancer and their family caregivers in patients' last 2 years of life? 📚   🔍 In a prospective cohort study of 210 patient-caregiver dyads, researchers found that 28% of patients exhibited a stronger preference for cost containment compared to their caregivers at 17%. There were no significant changes in the goals of care between patients and caregivers as patients approached death.   💡 These findings have important implications for improving end-of-life care. The study suggests that interventions targeting prognostic awareness and reducing discordance in goals of care between patients and caregivers can help develop realistic care expectations. This, in turn, can prevent the use of costly and ineffective treatments.   🏥 Understanding patients' goals of care is crucial to ensure they receive care consistent with their preferences.
