Emergency/Critical Care Doctor. Physician Leader at Equum Medical. Associate Med Director at DNWest. Heart transplant recipient & organ donation advocate.
As a 'young' transplant recipient, I often encounter well-meaning but awkward questions like, "So how long do you have??" 🫥 These moments, while sometimes humorous, show us the importance of mindfulness in our interactions with young people managing chronic illnesses. It's important for all of us as healthcare workers and advocates to be aware of the impact our words can have. Behind every lighthearted response is a person or a caregiver's complicated (& sometimes frustrating) health journey. 😷 So with that, I urge you to create a culture of empathy and respect in your conversations with your patients today. #wednesdaywisdom #patientadvocacy #womeninmedicine #docswithdisabilities

Coaching Black doctors to get what they want at work and create well compensated, sustainable careers.
Did you know that can be dysfunctional? We often base the severity of illness on whether it impacts your functionality but is that accurate? Dr Jeannie doesn’t think so. Tune in to this week’s episode to hear why doctors, some of our most high functioning members of society, may also be dysfunctional and what to do about it. This is the episode for you to come prepared to take notes and walk away clear with action steps on how to prioritize your own wellness, despite what you’ve been told on the type of doctor you “should” be. #Blackdoctor #Blackdoctors #Blackwomeninhealthcare #Blackresident #Blackresidents #Blackwomeninmedicine #womeninmedicine #Blackinmedicine #medicaleducation #theBlkdoctor #physiciancoach #careercoach #mdcoach #doctorcoach

Studies show that men are much less likely to keep up with preventive care. A staggering 44% of men do not get an annual checkup. For Men’s Health Week, let’s change that. 💪 The first step in the journey to a healthier life is scheduling a visit with a primary care provider (PCP) at 985-230-2778. A PCP can guide you through recommended screenings for your age, lifestyle and medical history. They also can help you address stress and mental wellness, two areas some men hesitate to reach out for help about.
