Meet MJ Jones, the kindest of kind, Rivian Sr. Field Delivery Guide based out of our Richmond, VA service center, who we had the pleasure to meet up with to talk all things vehicle delivery and to hear their experience being a non-binary individual at Rivian.     A self-described high energy person who always brings the party, MJ says, “I feed off the energy that comes with meeting people and introducing them to their Rivian. I love delivery because, in my opinion, it’s the customer’s happiest day. It’s almost like Christmas morning and I’m bringing people their presents. It keeps it exciting and fun for me!”    From the start, MJ’s gender expression at Rivian has been a point of relief and affirmation – it’s been nothing but positive. "When I applied, I used my legal name, but when the recruiter called, I answered as MJ," they explain. "Because my legal name differs, my recruiter asked if I wanted to change it in the system. This simple gesture meant a lot! Literally, from the first moment, I was given the chance to be myself at work." From that point on, subsequent interviewers and MJ's entire team used their preferred name and pronouns (they/them) correctly, including both close colleagues and daily acquaintances on the service center team.    A year in and their preference of pronouns has been welcomed with open arms. Nevertheless, there’s always room for education, “but that's just super easy to explain and just be like, ‘Hey, we're friends. Just do me this favor.’ It doesn't have to be some scary thing that you think it would be. I've had nothing but a good experience being nonbinary in this company and presenting that way.”    MJ recalls a time where they approached a coworker who had misgendered them: “I’d been letting it slide just because we are closer. I told him, ‘I just wanna let you know that I do identify as non-binary, and I would love if you could try using they/them pronouns with me.’ and he goes, ‘That is no problem at all. I'm so glad you told me and I will absolutely work on that. Please call it out if I ever say it incorrectly.’ It's just such a relief to have a conversation with somebody and it’s affirming when they continue to use the correct pronouns.”    Advice? MJ says, “I would say, be yourself. Come as you are. You're going to be accepted. People here will have your back no matter how you identify. And to any non-binary or queer folks looking into Rivian, we want you here! This is a company that truly cares about representation and backs it up with supporting its community members.”    Join us at rivn.co/RivianCareers.    #rivian | #adventurousforever | #foreverisforeveryone

If your employer doesn't value you as your whole self, it's time to move on. You are your best self - and best employee - when you feel valued for your whole person. Lovely profile!
