Knowledge I’ve learned at my Internship with Gibbs Die Casting: • How dies function, as well as, how the die go together. • How difficult working on dies can be especially when things are not labeled properly. • The importance of paying attention to what is around you when working and to be careful when dies are being lifted by the crane. • How to prep inserts for the Nitride Process to help increase its durability. • How to use equipment like wire wheels, impacts, pipe threaders, wheel grinders, and multiple other tools that help complete tasks necessary to fixing the dies. • How to create Die Books using PowerPoint as well as how to link labels to print files for the specified part. • How to manipulate CAD Models through the NX software to see the parts required for the model to create the Die Books. • The importance of communicating clearly with people on my team so that things get done efficiently. Overall, I have learned so much through my internship with Gibbs Die Casting and can not wait to keep learning more over the summer. I am very grateful for the opportunity provided to me from the company as well as the teachers at the Southern Indiana Career & Technical Center who have taught me to be a professional worker. 🚀 Thrilled to Announce the Completion of My 6-Month Internship at ZF Aftermarket Sdn Bhd! 🚀 I'm excited to share that I have successfully completed my internship at ZF Aftermarket Sdn Bhd, and it's been an incredible journey of learning and growth. During this period, I had the opportunity to work on a variety of challenging projects and develop valuable skills that I am eager to carry forward into my career. Key Highlights of My Internship: 🔧 Reverse Engineering & 3D Modeling: - Conducted reverse engineering on multiple models, starting with an axial rod and moving to complex ball joints. - Utilized CREO Parametric for 3D modeling and adapted quickly thanks to my prior experience. 📏 Advanced Measurement Techniques: - Employed tools such as FARO Arm, Scantech 3D Scanner, Profile Projector, and Smart Scope for critical dimension measurements. 💡 Cost Reduction & Design Development: - Learned cost-saving techniques by selecting common parts and simplifying identification methods. - Took ownership of designing and developing ball joints for car models like Mercedes, Mazda, and Honda. 📋 Documentation & File Management: - Managed comprehensive documentation and file management, ensuring streamlined process steps. 🛠️ Hands-On Experience: - Conducted torque tests on bushings and performed performance tests on sample builds. - Benchmarked components against top competitors to ensure market competitiveness. 🎓 Continuous Learning: - Participated in technical reviews, addressed design issues, and modified drawings based on supplier feedback. - Gained insights into using 3D scanners and PolyWorks software, significantly reducing measurement time. This internship has solidified my passion for mechanical engineering and equipped me with practical skills to tackle real-world challenges. Kierra G.'s summer internship has included some amazing views! Kierra is one of our Biomedical Engineering students and has been spending time interning with JLG Industries in Hagerstown, MD. Here are some details about her experience: TYPE OF WORK: "I am a design engineering intern, so I am working on designing various new features in Creo Parametric for JLG’s scissor lifts. These designs will help distinguish JLG from its competitors and improve customer ease of use. A project I am currently finishing up is designing a bracket to attach to a scissor lift platform that will reroute the Load Sensing System Cables. This not only improve the scissor cosmetically, but it will also prevent the cables from being pinched. I have also had the opportunity to operate and ride in some of JLG’s equipment, such as the 180-foot boom lift, telehandlers, and scissor lifts! This has allowed me to become more familiar with the equipment and improve my designs." HIGHLIGHT: "I have really enjoyed working one-on-one with the research and development team and watching my designs come to life. Though my internship is not directly related to my biomedical concentration, it has helped me see how small design improvements can really make an impact and help others, which is what I am passionate about." INCORPORATING COURSEWORK: "My knowledge from Mechanics 1 and 2 has really helped me with my design work. Mechanics introduced me to Finite Element Analysis, which has been useful in determining where to attach my bracket design. My familiarity with SolidWorks also allowed me to quickly learn how to 3D model in Creo Parametric." MY INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE During the internship, I had the incredible opportunity to dive deep into the world of precision engineering and manufacturing. I spent a significant amount of time working with milling machines, learning the intricacies of product making. Utilizing SolidWorks and AutoCAD, I designed and modeled various components, translating conceptual ideas into practical, manufacturable designs. Implementing the 5S methodology in the workspace helped improve efficiency, reduce waste, and create a safer working environment. Learning about cost estimation provided valuable insights into the financial aspects of manufacturing, while understanding GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) ensured parts met required specifications. I also delved into the importance of product packing, learning various techniques to ensure products are packed securely and efficiently. In the realm of metrology, I gained hands-on experience with precision measurement tools and techniques, highlighting the importance of accuracy in the manufacturing process. Finally, time management was an overarching theme throughout my internship, helping me balance multiple projects, meet deadlines, and optimize #snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #designthinking

🚀 Day 8️⃣ of My Internship Journey at Bezares Alpha Drives 🚀 💠 Today, I had the opportunity to dive into one of the most crucial aspects of the production department and engineering - designing. 💠 I got hands-on experience with SolidWorks software, learning about its fundamental tools and capabilities. ✅ Before diving into designing, it's essential to understand various factors such as: 1.The product's application 2.Its lifetime or durability 3.Other purposes and dimensions 4.Tolerance levels & etc.. ➡️ Additionally, a significant aspect of designing is considering the cost of the product manufacturing process. Every design decision impacts the overall production cost, making it a vital consideration. 🌟 This experience has provided me with valuable insights into how critical and detailed the design process is in production engineering. Meet the engineering students from Dalhousie University who just shifted their careers into high gear with a work term at Red Bull Racing, one of Formula One's top teams. Yes, you read that right. While most of us were mastering the art of making coffee or photocopying 101 during our internships, these students are helping to fine-tune some of the fastest cars in the world. Imagine walking into your work term and instead of a desk, you're handed designs for a component that will be used in the next Grand Prix. No pressure, right? This is not your average "fetch coffee" internship; it's a deep dive into the high-octane world of Formula One engineering, where the coffee is probably just as fast as the cars. But here's the kicker - it's not just about the speed. These students are at the forefront of innovation, working on sustainability projects to make Formula One greener. Because if there's anything we love more than fast cars, it's a planet we can actually live on to drive those cars. So, hats off to the team at Dalhousie University for securing such a phenomenal opportunity for their students. Transitioning from the academic realm to the dynamic world of mechanical engineering is no small feat, akin to stepping out of a wind tunnel and into a storm of real-world challenges. I was revved up and ready to navigate this exciting phase with an internship at Tesla this summer—a prime opportunity to turn my theoretical knowledge into practical horsepower. However, due to unforeseen company-wide layoffs, I was informed today that my journey had come to a halt a month before it was supposed to begin. Yet, every engineer knows that unexpected variables are part of the equation. What a good way to start a monday! 🌟 Diving into Solid Edge by Siemens during my internship has been an incredible experience. At university, I primarily worked with other CAD softwares, so having the chance to learn more about Solid Edge has been both refreshing and educational. The software’s robust simulation options, especially, have stood out to me. Being able to visually observe the physical bodies has deepened my understanding of how my design can perform under various conditions.🔧 This hands-on experience has truly highlighted the importance of simulation in engineering. I am grateful for the opportunity to expand my skill set and apply my knowledge in a real-world setting.
