I successfully completed an online course titled "Understanding Food Labels and Portion Sizes," authorized by the National Academy of Sports Medicine and offered through Coursera. This course provided in-depth knowledge about interpreting food labels, understanding nutritional information, and managing portion sizes effectively. Through various modules, I learned how to make healthier food choices, understand ingredient lists, and apply this knowledge to maintain a balanced diet. The course also covered the impact of portion control on overall health, equipping me with practical skills to manage dietary habits and promote better health outcomes. Here are the skills I acquired from the course "Understanding Food Labels and Portion Sizes": •Nutritional Label Interpretation: Ability to read and understand food labels, including macronutrients, micronutrients, and ingredient lists. •Portion Control: Knowledge of appropriate portion sizes and techniques to manage portions for balanced nutrition. •Healthy Food Choices: Skills to make informed decisions about food selections based on nutritional content. •Dietary Planning: Competence in planning meals and snacks that meet dietary guidelines and personal health goals. •Impact of Nutrition on Health: Understanding the relationship between nutrition, portion sizes, and overall health outcomes. •Practical Application: Practical skills to implement learned concepts in everyday eating habits for better health management. #understandingfoodlabels #foodportionsizes #onlinecourse #certificationcourse #noncreditcourse

Calibrate is built around the best nutrition practices shown to reduce cardiometabolic conditions and support long-term weight health. Our research-backed Calibrate Food Triangle helps you learn how to quickly and effectively assess foods by looking at how processed they are and the quality of nutrients they contain. In our Cooking With Calibrate event series, our wonderful Senior Director of Content and Program Content Strategy, Drew Salvatore, walks members through the ins and outs of health-promoting foods and shares easy recipes that bring the Calibrate food program to life. The combination of food as medicine and anti-obesity drugs is a powerful combination that changes your biology and gives you the tools to sustain long-term weight loss and improved metabolic function. “The combination of meds, curriculum, and coaching have re-trained my brain in the way I look at food and nutrition,” says a Calibrate member. “Regaining control of my health is the most rewarding part of this whole experience. Let's talk about nutrition facts, food labels, and Intuitive Eating. 🍎 These are my favorite seedy crackers from @traderjoes! 🫓 The nutrition label on the back will give me a lot of information, but it doesn't tell me everything I need to know. It's not going to tell me how many of these crackers I need to satisfy my hunger today, how many I need to feel full, or how many I need to meet my personal fiber or protein goals. How hungry am I? Is this a snack, or am I using these as the basis for a fast lunch? All of this is information you have to decide for yourself, and you may find that you need more or less crackers than the serving size to accomplish your goal! Intuitive eating means you aren't beholden to a serving size that someone else thought up. It means leading with satisfaction and honoring your body's signals for hunger and fullness. 😋 😁 #alpinenutrition #followme #foodie #plantbasedfoodie #intutiveeatingjourney #intuitiveeating #foodfreedom #food #snacks #wellnesswithoutobsession

Here are 3 reasons why weight required to calculate nutrition data: 1. It’s more accurate. Food items can have different densities and moisture contents, which means a cup of one type of food might not have the same nutritional content as a cup of another, even if they seem similar. Weight doesn't have this issue. 2. Improved consistency Measuring by weight is consistent across all types of food. Whether it's liquids, solids, or powders. Volume measurements can be tricky with irregularly shaped or bulky items that don't settle consistently in measuring cups or spoons. 3. It helps you adhere to professional standards Nutritionists, dietitians, and food service professionals prefer weight measurements for calculating exact nutritional information because it ensures accuracy and consistency, especially important for dietary planning and food labeling. While volume measurements can be convenient for liquid or easily pourable items... Weight is the go-to for critical accuracy. Especially in professional settings or when specific dietary needs must be met precisely. So if you have a restaurant: Weight up! #nutritionaldata #recipecostcalculator

Michele Szkolnicki, reminded me that March is National Nutrition Month, so before the month ends, let's reflect on this #WellbeingWednesday - how is the quality of your diet? Led annually by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the theme of 2024's National Nutrition Month is "Beyond the Table", referencing the "farm to fork" movement. While farm-to-fork typically conjures images of restaurants sourcing foods from local farms and serving them to customers, this process only tells part of the story about the foods we eat. The "Beyond the Table" theme encourages us to explore the entire journey our foods take before reaching our plates. It prompts us to consider the agricultural practices, manufacturing processes, transportation methods, and environmental impacts involved in bringing food from the farm to our forks. By understanding this bigger picture, we can make more informed choices about the foods we consume and support sustainable, ethical, and nutritious food systems. Here are some thought-provoking questions to ponder during National Nutrition Month: - How are the fruits, vegetables, grains, and proteins you eat grown/raised and processed? - What kind of workforce conditions exist throughout the food supply chain? - How far did your food travel to reach your local grocery store or farmers market? - What is the environmental footprint of your dietary choices? - Are you supporting local food producers and minimizing food waste? This National Nutrition Month, let's look "Beyond the Table" and strive to make food choices that nourish our bodies while respecting the planet and everyone involved in bringing that food to our tables. https://lnkd.in/ewhkiBb6 #NationalNutritionMonth #RDNday #NDTRday #NNMchat #eatright #eatrightPRO #kidseatright #wellbeing #wellness #health #mentalhealth #selfcare #healthylifestyle#healthyliving #lifestyle #healthy #happiness #nutrition #inspiration
