Thanks to Chase Marable, MBA, PWCA and Tabatha Morrow for the invitation to this quarter's Volunteer Leaders of the Ozarks meeting! Volunteer managers, development professionals, and nonprofit organizations as a whole are facing new challenges as they look to connect with younger audiences. This group of leaders took time to review Habitat Communication & Culture's "Shaping Tomorrow" report, commissioned by Community Foundation of the Ozarks. The study considered important questions like: ❔ Do younger residents define charitable giving differently than their parents? ❔ What unique motivations and preferences drive those under 40 to engage in charitable giving or volunteerism? ❔ How can nonprofit agencies build and maintain trust with younger audiences?

How can advisers get better at advising donors from diverse communities? 📢Beacon and ClearView's new report is a good place to start. I was lucky enough to be part of the panel discussion on this report today. 💡Not only does the report provide key insights into diverse donors and their drivers, it also poses key questions and challenges to advisers out there sitting within what is perceived as an elitist sector ⏸️ I've been lucky enough to advise quite a number of donors from diverse communities over the years but this report is a key reminder of the importance of placing the individual's values and drivers at the heart of any discussion and the need to take into account their unique lived experience in order to provide truly impactful advice. 📢 Whilst we are on the topic of diverse communities and inclusion, a challenge for The Beacon Collaborative and ClearView Research could we look into the motivations and drivers of disabled donors? It would be interesting to see how much lived experience shines through for those donors also.... Sonal Sachdev Patel Shalni Arora Kenny Imafidon Jim Cooke Cath Dovey
This morning, CVR Managing Director Kenny Imafidon had the privilege of hosting a thought-provoking roundtable discussion in collaboration with The Beacon Collaborative. We delved into the findings from our most recent report, 'Bridging Diversity in British Philanthropy,' where we explored the unique experiences of diverse groups in philanthropy and their connections to the broader charity sector. 📊 Shoutout to the other wonderful panellist Shalni Arora, Jim Cooke, Ashling Cashmore and Sonal Sachdev Patel! You can discover the insights and recommendations from the report in the link below🔗 Stay tuned for video clips and highlights, which will be shared on The Beacon Collaborative's page. 🎥 #CVRInsights #Philanthropy

Thank you LaShawne Pryor, Ed.D for having us as at this year’s HBCU Philanthropy Symposium. It was great connecting with you, Meg Cline, Andrew Hibel and CJ I strongly believe that planned giving is prime opportunity for HBCUs - particularly life income gifts. Life income gifts, such as charitable gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts, offer benefits for both donors and institutions: Benefits for donors: 1. **Regular Income**: Donors receive regular payments for life or a specified term. 2. **Tax Deductions**: Donors may receive an immediate charitable income tax deduction for a portion of the gift. 3. **Capital Gains Tax Savings**: Donors can often avoid capital gains tax on appreciated assets used to fund the gift. 4. **Estate Planning**: Life income gifts can help donors reduce their taxable estate and potentially pass more to their heirs. 5. **Philanthropic Impact**: Donors can support charitable causes they care about during their lifetime. Benefits for institutions: 1. **Stable Funding**: Institutions receive a reliable stream of income from the gift over the designated period. 2. **Donor Relationships**: Life income gifts can deepen relationships with donors and their families over time. 3. **Diversification**: Institutions can diversify their revenue sources by incorporating life income gifts into their fundraising strategies. 4. **Legacy Giving**: Life income gifts can help institutions build a pipeline of future support from donors who include them in their estate plans. 5. **Financial Sustainability**: These gifts can contribute to the long-term financial sustainability of the institution. Overall, life income gifts can be a win-win for both donors and institutions, providing financial benefits, tax advantages, and the opportunity to make a lasting impact through philanthropy. #ImpactforLifeIncomeForForever
We loved participating in planned giving conversations at the 2024 HBCU Philanthropy Symposium this week! A. Ahmad Berry and Denise T. Johnson, Esq., LL.M.T presented Planned Giving 2.0, and our client Meg Cline from the University of Illinois Foundation spoke on a panel about building university planned giving programs. We look forward to continuing the conversation around the need for life income gifts and legacy building at HBCUs. #plannedgiving #agiftthatpaysyouback #HBCUPhilanthropySymposium #HBCU

In 2018, Mortenson Family Foundation established its mission to build partnerships to strengthen community-driven approaches that advance equity, opportunity, and sustainable systems. To live up to our mission, we knew we needed to center equity and community voices, and work to dismantle the harms that are often perpetuated by the philanthropic and #nonprofit sectors. We are learning that even within our organization there are different ways to achieve our goal of centering community. We see this as an approach, not a model. Here are three lessons we have learned: 1. Lead with your commitments. Leading with our racial #equity commitments and using them to frame the conversations, both internally and externally, has been a way for us to live into and model our accountability to the commitments. 2. Have goals and be open to emergence. We initiated a #community engagement process to gather input on our guidelines and meet community members who might eventually serve on our grantmaking committees. It was useful to have the clear goal of inviting individuals to serve on our grantmaking committees, but it was also important to be open to expanding, modifying, or even discarding our goals as we learn and move forward. 3. Choose a common project. Our community engagement processes helped us expand our knowledge on how to better align our program focus, language, and guidelines with our racial equity commitments. This opportunity to work together on our program guidelines as a shared project was central to building relationships, creating connections and trust, and creating ownership of a co-created body of work.
