This July, people from all corners of the globe are uniting in a pledge to avoid single-use cups, plastic drink bottles, and plastic food wrap in a collective effort to combat plastic pollution. With Plastic Free July just around the corner, now is the perfect time to take action. How you can be involved on personal and organisational level ? 1. Refuse to use plastic straws and cutlery. 2. Use reusable bags for shopping. 3. Use reusable water bottles and reusable cups. 4. Choose eco-friendly food containers. Or you can chose any of the step mentioned in the calendar ! Can you refuse single-use plastic for a whole month? Today marks the start of Plastic Free July - a campaign to reduce single use plastics and promote plastic free solutions. The initiative is designed to bring awareness to the ways we can live a plastic free life and lead the transition away from single-use plastic applications. There are many ways we can reduce our use of plastics; - Carry a reusable water bottle - Avoid excessive food packaging - Use refill stations for detergents - Take bags for life to the shops - Buy a reusable coffee cup for your coffees on the go - Even switching back to milk being delivered to your door in glass bottles. These, and many other actions, will reduce the use of plastics and stop the equivalent of a rubbish trucks worth of plastic waste ending being dumped in our oceans every minute! Plastic free July Did you know that it takes about 500 years for the average-sized plastic water bottle to decompose and about 1,000 years for plastic grocery sacks to degrade. Judging by the label on this bottle that was picked up today, it's 21 years old! So "only" 479 years left. Reusable water bottles can be used over and over again, making them a great alternative to plastic bottles without adding to environmental stressors. By choosing an environmentally friendly water bottle, you can significantly reduce your carbon footprint and be part of the solution. #recycling #plasticfreejuly #conservation

🌍 In 2023, Plastic Free July participants from around the world each took small steps, together making a big difference by choosing to refuse single-use plastic. When asked in our survey "What was the biggest change you made this year", some of participant’s top responses were: ➡️ refusing plastic bags ➡️ avoiding packaging (13%) ➡️ avoiding plastic bottled products ➡️ switching from plastic food wrap ➡️ avoiding disposable cups; and ➡️ buying bulk goods. Plastic Free ME: Simple changes to make a significant impact on reducing plastic waste? Switching to reusable water bottles. Our team has embraced this eco-friendly practice, even during team meet-ups at local cafés. Other ways include using reusable containers and utensils during onsite lunches and bringing our own bags for shopping. For those food items with plastic that can't be avoided at this time, it's good to know that there are soft plastic recycling points in supermarkets.
