Tonight we will be lit up blue and green as we join people around the globe to mark World Neurofibromatosis (NF) Awareness Day. Neurofibromatosis, a genetic disorder that affects 1 in every 3,000 people worldwide, causes tumors to grow on nerve pathways anywhere in the body, leading to potential complications such as blindness, deafness, bone abnormalities, disabling pain, and even cancer. This cause is particularly close to our hearts. Our signature Wine & Gold Bow Tie pins symbolize our REG family’s fight against NF, a battle that deeply affected Nick Gilbert, the son of our Chairman Dan Gilbert and his wife Jennifer. Nick, who became a beloved figure when he represented the Cavaliers at the 2011 NBA Draft Lottery with his signature bow tie, bravely fought NF1 for years before his untimely passing last year. His legacy of perseverance and joy continues to inspire us all.

Something Canadians Do Not Understand About U.S. Healthcare While we see the Canadian health care system failing under unprecedented demand, the US has other issues. Imagine that you voted for Obamacare believing it was going to improve your standard of health coverage, but the reality delivered something you never saw coming. Your own health care became unaffordable as you lost the private plan your employer provided. In addition, you got taxed extra if you did not pay for the replacement, unaffordable private plan - and yet you did not qualify for direct coverage under "Obamacare." A mean catch-22. This man's story reflects what happened to many. Some of my family were also caught up in this. A niece had a plan provided by her employer get cancelled, because it failed the "new standards." She was paying $120 per month with a $500 deductible. The cheapest new plan was $400 per month, with $1,000 deductible. This on a $40,000 a year salary - yet she did not qualify for "Obamacare" coverage. Imagine how this devastated many Americans. Completely unexpected because that health care plan imposed was so poorly understood. You had rent or mortgages to pay, car payments, etc - and suddenly your health care plan more than doubled in premium costs. It also became illegal to not have a private health care plan if you worked for an organization with more than "X" number of individuals. For my niece, she would have paid a penalty of close to $200 per month for not taking the new coverage. Many did this, and are still paying for zero benefits. So free health care to illegals is a mean slap in the face for many Americans. They're paying for something they can't receive while still paying a cash penalty because they can't afford health care coverage. This seems unbelievable to us, but for Americans it is very real. So if you wonder why a criminal (Trump) could possibly be supported - this goes a long way to explaining things!

Here’s a post to help you put your Tuesday in perspective before you stress about your workload to day…
We had our Fleece & Thank You Q3 board meeting last night and we always start with a few inspirational messages from blanket recipients/families of blanket recipients…something to remind us why we do what we do. 1 family shared their baby is out of the hospital after 535 straight days in the hospital. 1 family that shared their daughter received a Harry Potter themed blanket and all they did was listen/watch Harry Potter while in the hospital and their daughter was so happy she got this themed blanket. But we also had 1 family share that their 11 year old son received a blanket and 4 days later he lost his battle with cancer. He hugged his blanket in his last days and his mother still hugs his blanket even after his passing. Don’t forget the power of love and don’t think making 1 blanket won’t do anything…that 1 blanket will comfort a child and also their family. It’s bigger than any of us…Make sure today you help someone…

The sight of King Charles resuming some royal duties, is both comforting and encouraging. It must serve as a ray of light that you can fight against the attack that is cancer. The dreaded big C. I have said before that the King's decision to publicly share his personal diagnosis of cancer is so very beneficial for the public and deeply considerate. The greater awareness it will bring to early detection and treatment of the disease cannot be underestimated, and of course, there will be wider positive knock-on effects too. In my line of work, I have found that when people are diagnosed with a serious illness, like cancer, this naturally leads them to consider not just making a Will, but also to make Lasting Powers of Attorney. Lasting Powers of Attorney allow you to plan ahead by enabling you to give someone you trust the legal authority to make decisions for you and on your behalf should you ever lack mental capacity. There has been an increase in the number of people enquiring about Lasting Powers of Attorney since the pandemic, unsurprisingly: - From adult children making enquiries for their parents; or - Individuals coming to an awareness of the benefits of Lasting Powers of Attorney and wanting to know more. Whatever the reason, Lasting Powers of Attorney should definitely be part of your armoury if getting your affairs in order are a priority for you, regardless of whether you have been diagnosed with a serious illness or not. If you've been considering them and are keen to know what's involved - from how they are made to how they are registered and crucially, why they are so important - we should have a chat. Send me a message or comment below if you want to know more. #LPA #POA #PowerOfAttorney #LastingPowerOfAttorney BBC article: King Charles shares 'shock' of cancer diagnosis with patients https://lnkd.in/gBR5JJuS
