Do you know a person, project or programme within academia, science, or business that has made significant contributions to educating or motivating organisations in their response to meteorological challenges, for example climate change or significant weather events? The Award for Impact recognises contributions from professional and amateur communities. It may be awarded to those whose work does not naturally lend itself necessarily to publication in scientific literature but is of significant value to the science of meteorology. Nominate a worthy individual or cause for this award by 18 October at https://lnkd.in/eFXDCHaS. #meteorology #weather #climate

Butterfly effect The butterfly effect is a concept that suggests small changes in initial conditions can lead to significant and unpredictable outcomes in complex systems. This idea originated from the work of meteorologist Edward Lorenz, who demonstrated how minor alterations in initial data could result in vastly different weather predictions. The term "butterfly effect" was coined by Lorenz to illustrate the sensitivity of systems to initial conditions. This phenomenon has been applied beyond meteorology to various fields, highlighting the interconnectedness and non-linear nature of cause and effect. #quantumleap #ButterflyEffect #ChaosTheory #NonLinearDynamics #InitialConditions #SensitivityAnalysis #ComplexSystems #EdwardLorenz #Meteorology #Interconnectedness #CauseAndEffect #SmallChanges #UnpredictableOutcomes #MinorAlterations #WeatherPredictions #SystemsThinking #Emergence #FeedbackLoops #ScienceCommunication #NatureOfChange #PhilosophyOfScience
