The education and training supply chain are key on a number of fronts to industrial decarbonisation.
🗣️ "It's not just the activity in terms of decarbonisation that is operating at scale; it is also the education supply chain that will have to operate at scale." - Kirstie Simpson, Dean and Associate Professor, University of Chester 🌐 CCUS has been identified as a pillar of industrial decarbonisation, and vital to reducing emissions at lowest cost globally. Carbon Capture and Storage Association's Olivia Powis sat down with Kirstie, Jonathan Briggs (VPI ), Richard Gwilliam (Drax Group) & John Hartley (Levidian) to explore the most promising investment opportunities in the creation of industrial hubs and other CCUS projects. 📽️ View the full discussion here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eCQfCgFD

"#GreeningEducation aims to highlight the interconnections of the climate crisis to social, economic, and environmental pillars of sustainable development. While climate change is the thematic entry point of greening education, the holistic approach of ESD is the basis for improving the quality and delivery of education responses to the climate crisis and moving learning beyond conventional subject areas and traditional content." Pathways to Climate Resilience In my inaugural lecture i discussed 5 pathways to climate resilience. From pathways to climate resilient living in the Netherlands to global realignment of capital flows. Most interesting to me is the European pathway that combines regulation with reporting standards and with banking regulation from climate stresstesting. I explain how these three pillars of the European way could brake the 'tragedy of the horizon' that kept us from taking sufficient action until now. https://lnkd.in/e9pV9Y-E

Everyone agrees on the importance of impact transparency and accountability, but what exactly is meant by these terms, and how can we combat impact washing in practice? Join our Head of Impact, Matt Ripley, and Karim Harji at the Skoll Foundation World Forum with Marmalade in Oxford on April 11th to explore these important questions! In the meantime, learn more about our impact verification and assurance service here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/euS-TwD8 #SkollWF #Impact #ImpactManagement #ImpactVerification #ImpactAssurance #ImpactIntegrity

Sustaining the Commons - continuing with the challenges, large-scale collective action problems have new problems arise all the time. Disagreements, conflicts, and so on. Hopeful examples include the Montreal protocol for phasing out CFCs and now HFCs. Relying on past institutions that have worked seems more attractive despite the urgent changes needed. Social problems are typically wicked problems - guns, education, abortion, healthcare and so on. New institutional arrangements require new and small experiments to develop effective institutions. Other than the diverse groups and large scales, not everyone maybe interested in solving the problem - clearly the case for climate change problem. Rules may also be hard to change - EU is a good example. The understanding of the Human-environmental systems have made great advances and yet no blueprints exist to simply apply to all collective action problems. Relating small scale experiments and their findings to larger scales remain a challenge. But the IAD framework and toolbox should provide ways forward on sustainability, healthcare, sports, education and such. New problems arising from rapid environmental and technological changes of course. #sustainability #sustainingthecommons #climmatechange #climateaction #climatesolutions #adaptation #governance #mitigation #decarbonisation https://lnkd.in/dJGtUw2F

Without our planet, we don’t exist. Today think of one small thing you can do to make a difference. “Do different 2024” East Coast College is empowering our students and communities to shape how we operate as a green college, but also our curriculum and how we can have a positive impact ❤️ Take the carbon footprint calculator to see how you can make small changes with a big impact https://lnkd.in/eBwqEjXY

At #SkollWF, the discussion around #climatefinance is vividly present. And it is so because they are a promisse often underdelivered. As I listen to the panel 360° Climate Finance, I conclude that our climate community is often as committed as distracted from our goal: deep change to restaure balance in our planet. Some questions I take to my practice: - how many new, different sources of finance for climate are we exploring? - how to accelerate the transversalization of adaptation and mitigation approaches to development funding? - are projects serving to guide or to complicate action? what practices facilitate the guiding role? - how to deepen and increase trust building? - Indirect costs should be renamed to indicate their structural, essential role? this is a point Rukka Sombolinggi very wiselly brought. - how to make systemic, interconnected thinking prevail over niche, specialized categories? Climate, development, democracy are part of a same process Nancy Lindborg from The David and Lucile Packard Foundation provoked.

Heat and the Olympics 🌡️🏅 Check out my piece, "Rising Temperatures and the Paris Olympics," now live via High-Level Climate Champions. This article delves into the issue of #heat stress at major athletic events. While the primary focus is on the Paris Olympics, it's always important to emphasize that our warming climate affects not only global sporting events but also everyday life. #ClimateResilience #ParisOlympics #ClimateAction
The Olympics is a cultural tradition that has spanned more than 3,000 years — but continuing the Games safely will require new approaches, as Jordan Clark, PhD, Senior Policy Associate at the Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability, Duke University explains.
