This is the true danger of Li-ion batteries entering the waste stream These erroneous and misplaced batteries can cause so much damage and potential disruption to business. In this incident our sister business Helios Fire Systems Ltd has confirmed the impact of such fires is growing exponentially and this incident could have been catastrophic and potentially business ending. Garry Adey also commented “even though these advanced system are initially expensive, they truly pay for themselves immediately with events such as this one this weekend”. Having an advanced vision based detection system like Lionvision can help with the prevention of these type of batteries entering the waste process. 🦁👁️
Over the weekend, our recycling facility experienced an out-of-hours fire. We'd like to say a huge thank you to our Helios Fire System which did a fantastic job at putting out the fire in only 2 minutes before it could spread. We'd also like to thank Garry Adey and the members of the CSH Environmental team who attended the site out of hours - Jordan Tarman, James Dellow & Kevin Mann. We're incredibly proud of our recycling facility, so we're glad that no significant damage was done and we can continue to do what we do best. Helios Fire Systems Ltd

Chain of custody means that we can assuredly buy timber that has come from sustainably-managed PEFC-approved forests and lets us see the journey that the wood has made to reach us and our customers. #pefc #Building #PanelProducts #safeandlegalchoice #panelproducts https://lnkd.in/eytyPJYb

Another week another fire successfully detected and extinguished. This goes to show the true value of the Helios Fire Systems Ltd ATFS advanced early warning targeted fire system. The system again has detected very early the deep seated fire most probably caused by an incorrectly disposed Li-ion battery. Hope everyone at CSH Environmental and Mark Slade, Daniel Cox are all okay and have the peace of mind that their investment in our systems has paid dividends and safeguarded them again and for the future. #recycling #ATFS #fireprotection #automaticfiresystems #firesuppression #targetedfiresuppression #wasterecycling #wastemanagement #fireengineering #PYROsmart #cannons #turrets #expertsintargettedfiresuppression #firesafety #circulareconomy #wasteplantprotection #thermalimaging #intelligentfirefighting #innovation #Heliosfiresystems #wettingagents #intelligence #No1 #onlythebest #orglmeister

At Structure Tone, we’re proud to walk the talk when it comes to sustainability, especially during the renovation of our new 'Client Experience Hub' at our NYC office (330W34). We partnered with Shaw Contract, leveraging their re[TURN] takeback program, to reclaim carpet tiles during the demolition phase and send them back to the manufacturer (to be recycled into new products). This initiative has been successful on many of our projects, showcasing how innovative sustainable construction practices can create a lasting impact. Let’s keep driving the future of circularity in our industry! 🌍♻️ #Sustainability #CircularConstruction #ZeroWaste #CarpetReclamation #InnovationHub Learn more at: https://lnkd.in/edFFa6Z3
#Sustainability success story! Our NY team partnered with Shaw Contract on a carpet reclamation effort at 330 West 34th Street. Through Shaw’s EcoWorx takeback program, we returned over 160 square yards of carpet tile for recycling. This effort avoided landfill waste, contributed to circular manufacturing, and saved on hauling costs. We are proud to be a leader in environmental initiatives and provide a replicable model for future projects. #WeBuildGreen #WeBuildTogether

Collaboration on simple yet effective measures to benefit all.
As part of Scottish Recycling Week Terrenus Land & Water Ltd worked with Simul8 and Rebecca Sydenham to upcycle / recycle some of their old office equipment to help house and organise our storage container. Saving valuable items with life yet in them from the skip. A great effort by all!

I was honored to offer a National perspective on C&D recycling today at Environmental Business Council of New England, Inc. 19th C&D Summit. To maximize recycling rates we need strong end markets. For strong end markets, we have to promote the (environmental and economic) value of recovered materials and make quality “spec” products that instill confidence and long term commitments to using them. We also need smart policies that balance environmental protection and material recovery while limiting unintended consequences. Let’s continue this important conversation at Construction & Demolition Recycling Association (CDRA) ‘s annual C&D World in Dallas March 11-14th! https://lnkd.in/geSDWfFy
Thank you to Terri Ward of Construction & Demolition Recycling Association (CDRA) for closing out EBC’s annual Construction and Demolition Materials Summit. A great day spent in discussion of deconstruction strategies, management of contaminated waste streams, and new technologies to potentially increase recovery and recycling of materials. Thank you to Platinum Sponsor Pennoni for supporting the Summit. Grateful also to Gold Sponsors USA Gypsum, G Mello Disposal, Commonwealth Waste Transportation, Weston & Sampson, Verrill, Casella, and Costello Dismantling Co., Inc. And Silver Sponsors Select Demo Services, LLC, Goulet Trucking, and Green Seal Environmental.

One way of ensuring Breyer continues “Sustainably Improving Homes & Communities” is by working with brilliant organisations like Community Wood Recycling (CWR). Our Breyer Renew team in Stevenage is one of our contracts making good use of CWR’s services, saving a little on the alternative cost of using skips and supporting a charity that brings real social value to the local community. Matt Charnley, Site Manager for Stevenage, comments on their involvement with CWR: “CWR offers a fantastic service that is very cost effective, especially as most timber such as fence panels is now classified as hazardous waste due to the treatments and paints used on them, which makes removal of them very costly. In Stevenage, we mainly use CWR to collect old fencing and pallets. We are also using them on our decarbonisation contract for B3 Living where we’re looking to get some planters built and perhaps a bench or two.” CWR has recently celebrated its 25th anniversary and, with it, some impressive statistics. The company collects good, reusable timber from construction sites (palettes, batons or other quality wood), and then prepares the best bits for reuse elsewhere; recycles other pieces into products or cuts smaller bits into firewood. This process has meant zero waste to landfill from the 244,020 tonnes of wood they have collected to date, averting the equivalent of 120,000 tonnes of CO2 and saving 388,000 gallons of diesel compared with that required by a skip lorry for the same amount of waste. #BreyerGroup #recycling #sustainability

WISH SME committee members have recently attended a meeting hosted by John Gosling Managing Director at TJ Waste & Recycling Ltd in Portsmouth following a Lithium battery fire that destroyed their site in July 2024. The site is due to re-open in February 2025 at cost of 1.5 million pounds. There is a concern that these fires will lead to a situation where insurers will decline to offer cover in our industry given the frequency they are occurring. Barnbrook Systems Ltd demonstrated their new E:bag https://lnkd.in/exDwEMKx that were originally designed to secure overheating phones and laptops onboard aeroplanes. The plan is to roll out a cost effective system to for the recycling sector that will provide a safe way of storing and transporting batteries that can be re-used.
