The impact of Covid-19 on both businesses and communities has indeed been profound. The pandemic has highlighted the importance of relationships over transactions, emphasizing the value of collaboration, communication, and empathy. As businesses shift from a purely transactional approach to one that values relational dynamics, they foster environments where innovation and skill development thrive. This cultural shift towards nurturing soft skills and building partnerships can lead to more resilient and sustainable business models. Similarly, communities have faced challenges that require collective action and support. The pandemic has shown that community strength lies in unity and the ability to adapt and support one another. Coordinated efforts, whether through sponsorship, partnerships, or community initiatives, can help rebuild and reinforce community bonds, making them more robust against future adversities. The example of Westaway Sausages Ltd. and Newton Abbot Rugby Club illustrates how businesses can play a pivotal role in supporting and enhancing community spirit. By investing in local institutions and activities, businesses can contribute to the social fabric and well-being of the communities they are part of. In essence, the legacy of Covid-19 could be a shift towards a more relationship-oriented approach in both business and community settings, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, resilience, and mutual support.

Scottie Scheffler has been through a lot these past couple of months, but keeps on persevering and setting records! He is spending some time off the course investing in the Texas Ranchers pickleball team. I hope to see more of his business endeavors soon! #entrepreneur #business #golf #pga #investments
Scottie Scheffler has won The Memorial Tournament, taking home the $4 million first-place prize. That means Scheffler has officially set a new single-season PGA Tour earnings record for the third straight year. 2022: $14 million 2023: $21 million 2024: $24 million Even crazier, there are still 3+ months left in the season. This guy is on an entirely different planet right now. #sports #linkedinsports #sportsbiz

A very disappointing day for rugby in Australia. It seems history is set to repeat itself with another Australian Super Rugby Team ceasing to exist. It is naive to think reducing the professional contracting opportunities by 20% will increase depth and competition. The NRL and AFL have 17 and 18 teams respectively, Rugby will have 4. Which code do you think juniors will steer towards? A 1/4 chance or a 1/17 or 1/18, less career opportunities will equal less depth as potential players seek certainty and better odds of making it professional. How could a governing body be ignorant to a franchise operating insolvent for multiple years? I question whether this failure of corporate governance raises more concerns for the future of professional rugby in Australia.
STATEMENT | RUGBY VICTORIA BOARD OF DIRECTORS Rugby Australia has made the heartbreaking decision to discontinue the Melbourne Rebels beyond the 2024 Super Rugby season. This decision has a significant impact on staff, families, players, fans, volunteers and elite pathways in Victoria. The hard work and dedication that has gone into the Melbourne Rebels behind the scenes over the past 14 years cannot be overstated and we extend our deepest sympathies to all during this difficult time. We must remember that the game of Rugby is built from the grassroots. It is about the people who play it, who administer it, who coach it and those who support it. Let's stand together now, more than ever, to support Victorian Rugby Union. #StrongerBindsVictoria #VicRugby #VicProud

At a time when rugby union is struggling in North America, and despite not having the Eagles qualifying for the RWC23, Major League Rugby is attracting many former rugby icons, such as Matt Giteau, to name but one. Recently, Stade Toulousain, one of Europe's most prestigious clubs, joined forces with the Utah Warriors, striking a major blow on the American Rugby Union (XV) market. However, it is Rugby League (XIII) that is about to conquer the American market. This type of rugby, often described as more spectacular and rougher, is about to set foot in the United States. The economic strategy behind this move is questionable and highly risky... But "high-risk = high-reward". I can't wait to see if Rugby League (XIII) can make it on the American market before Rugby Union (XV) rugby does. Let's give it a try. --------------------- French version available online --------------------- Selective by passion #sponsorship #sports #marketing

Work hard Play harder
While waiting to see them take to the field for the first official matches, yesterday at the Macron Campus we had the honour of presenting the new jerseys that the Italian Rugby national teams will wear in the 2024/25 season. It was a unique event, which saw the participation of the president of Federazione Italiana Rugby, Marzio Innocenti, and all the top management of the Federation and the regional committees. In addition to the ‘host’ Gianluca Pavanello, the Azzurri coach Gonzalo Quesada and the entire technical staff of the Azzurri were also present, as well as players Menoncello, Brex, Cannone, Giordano and D'Incà. After a brief tour of the Campus, the guests were welcomed into the impressive Sala dei Sogni for the official presentation of the jerseys. The new Italrugby kits are a tribute to Renaissance art, but also to the sense of belonging to the nation, expressed through the words of the anthem that represents it. The event concluded with a traditional ‘third half’ in the inner courtyard, where guests and employees gathered to inaugurate in full rugby style the coming season. #Macron #MacronCampus #RugbyItaly #NationalTeam #ThirdHalf

A little late to this, but a thoroughly interesting read from Roger Mitchell about the future of professional club rugby and the idea of a LIV-style super league (as also discussed by The Good, The Bad & The Rugby). There is no question that the club game is struggling financially at present, and there is already talk of Saudi investment in several Premiership clubs. So, would a LIV-style super league with club teams based across the world work? One can certainly see the commercial appeal - who wouldn’t love to watch the likes of Antoine Dupont, Beauden Barrett and Cheslin Kolbe getting drafted into the same team - but might it undermine the existing club structure and the talent development opportunities it entails? If it does happen, you would imagine that it won’t be without a significant legal battle (see, for example, the legal disputes over LIV Golf, the European Super League and the ice skating breakaway league). This would raise some fascinating legal questions about World Rugby’s regulatory framework and competition law. The recent decision of the CJEU on the European Super League case, which emphasised the need for access to the market for organising sports competitions to be governed by transparent, objective, non-discriminatory and proportionate criteria, would be particularly relevant. A more detailed blog post on this coming soon… In the meantime, what do you think about the idea? #SportsLaw #Rugby #LIV
