One of the biggest crises facing local authorities is the rapidly increasing number of vulnerable children unable to attend mainstream schools due to behavioral issues and school exclusions. Children with social workers, those from deprived areas, and those with special needs are significantly more likely to be excluded from school. Statistically, these children are at a higher risk of becoming involved in violence and experiencing poor outcomes. As Dennis Simms from the Youth Endowment Fund emphasizes, the first step is to keep children in education. • Deliver evidence-informed attendance improvement strategies. • Implement whole-school and targeted behavior support to reduce the need for exclusion. • Provide the right support for suspended and permanently excluded children. At The Pre-K Priority, we're dedicated to creating access to high-quality early education for every child in Forsyth County. Our work has been made possible through the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust and its Great Expectations initiative which aims to ensure children are kindergarten-ready and set for lifelong success. In their recent op-ed in The Winston-Salem Journal, Trust President Dr. Laura Gerald, MD, MPH and Sr. Program Officer Shenell Thompson highlighted The Pre-K Priority and our recent Year 1 Report as a blueprint for “the power of four” – ensuring each 4-year-old in our county will succeed. Dr. Gerald and Thompson write, "We also know that not every child has access to quality Pre-K in Forsyth County. Expensive programs, long waitlists and bias keep many children – particularly children in low-income families and children of color – from accessing high-quality Pre-K. That’s unacceptable. And that’s why changing the system so every child in Forsyth County can attend quality, affordable Pre-K extends beyond the classroom. It’s about equity. It’s about justice. Love your eye ❤️ Ainak is a Silicon Valley nonprofit, in providing free eye exams and prescription eyeglasses to the under-resourced children in California. Ainak's mission is a powerful commitment to ensuring that no child is left behind in their educational journey due to the financial constraints of their parents or guardians in affording proper eye care. We believe in providing every child with the opportunity to achieve a 20/20 vision, recognizing that this not only supports their academic success but also cultivates the confidence necessary for them to thrive in life and pursue their dreams. The statistics further underscore the urgency and significance of our mission. A staggering 62 million Americans lack access to essential eye care and eyeglasses, creating a substantial gap in addressing visual health needs. Equally concerning is the fact that over 300,000 children commence their school year each September with vision impairment, underscoring the critical nature of our work. Alarming is the diagnosis of vision impairment in 1 in 3 preschool-aged children. This statistic emphasizes the crucial role Ainak plays in intervening at an early age to prevent not only immediate hindrances to learning but also to avert potentially severe eye health problems as these children mature.

The In-N-Out Burger Foundation invites applications for Child Abuse Prevention Grants! 👧👦 The foundation’s purpose is to assist children and youth who have been victims of child abuse and neglect and to prevent others from suffering a similar fate. These grants are for agencies within the areas where In-N-Out Burger does business that most closely aligns with our mission. The In-N-Out Burger Foundation is happy to consider the following types of grants: 1. Program: Designed to support the development, expansion, or enhancement of programs within an existing organization. 2. General Operating Support: Unrestricted funding is available to support an organization’s core programming. 3. Capital Purchase: Equipment, furnishing, and other major material purchases. 4. Capital Campaign: Construction of new facilities, renovations, upgrades to existing buildings, and other special projects. The foundation encourages organizations to continue to submit a separate proposal for programmatic or general operating support funding as they normally would.
