So what if you could change the way an insurance company views your business? We are in a tough market place right now and the traditional bid it to win it model just doesn't work well. So you are probably wondering what does work well? Well let me explain the traditional model first. The underwriter gets a submission with a very minimal description of your business. Along with that is loss runs of 3 to 5 years worth. So the underwriter is only looking at your past claims! What about the future and what you are investing in for safety, buildings, machinery and so on. Well most the time the underwriter is unaware of that because of the traditional model. Be it the impact of previously incorrect guestimates or the effects of carrying toppy inflationary increases these last few years, it's not unusual to make a recommended reduction to a Reinstatement Value. In my experience, policy holders perception is usually that insurance premiums only ever go up and that a Reinstatement Valuation is a premium increasing exercise. This really couldn't be further from the truth. A Reinstatement Valuation is the only way to ensure accurate cover. I absolutely empathise that challenging a Reinstatement Value, particularly with a long standing customer, can be a tricky conversation. It is the only way to put a policy holder on best cover and align their policy with certainty of outcome if the worst were to happen- so completely worth dealing with any awkwardness. In the current economic climate, this could mean that 1 in 5 policy holders are over paying for their buildings insurance premiums.
