Physical Therapist turned Healthcare Recruiter | Partnering with Healthcare Teams to Find Top Talent | Recruiting Therapists, Nurses & Leadership
Moving fast to hire new Physical Therapists alone isn’t going to cut it in 2024. You’ve got to be competitive. Sure, in 2023, speed to hire was a large component to the hiring game. But in 2024, PTs have options. A plethora of options. And having options means multiple offers. Every. Single. Time. Having multiple options also means the likelihood of a clinician moving only for a job or excessively commuting for a job is slim. Unless… there’s a reason. Clinics, Facilities & Organizations who are able to win the talent war are competitive. Competitive in their pay, benefits, schedule, mentorship programs, patient caseload etc. Plus, possessing a great culture is also a make or break. You don’t necessarily need to win 100% of the above items, but you certainly can’t afford to be at the bottom of every single category. In 2024, if your ducks aren’t in a row and you aren’t on your “hiring A game”, your competition will be.

"How long have your team members been employed here?" Question #4. This can be a touchy one... 😬 But I'd ask it. Here's why. If I'm walking in to a new position as a physical therapist, much of my success depends on the other team members I'm working with. I'd want at least one other experienced clinician in the same clinic (5 or more years experience). Maybe we don't work in the same location - but someone I can discuss more difficult cases with would be ideal. I'd want a PTA who was experienced. Why? If I'm stepping into a new role AND training a newer PTA - awareness of that work seems crucial. I'd look for a receptionist and biller who knew the ins and outs of the practice. Someone I could rely on to handle the respective areas - make sure patients are taken care of - so I could better focus on my role in the clinic. If there's team turnover, I'd follow-up with what's the reason. If the practice is growing, that might be a logical reason for an influx of newer team members. This seems to be a fair question to assess what you're walking in to...hopefully it's a team with some reliability and established level of competency. ✅ Be sure to ask this next time you're interviewing for a DPT position. Next time, I'll begin to cover the 3 questions you should ask about marketing.

Here are the top 3 questions we recommend recently graduated physical therapists ask during the interview process: 1. What is the mission and vision of the clinic? ie. Does the practice owner eventually want to sell? Grow to more locations? Specialize? Be sure to get SPECIFIC answers; don't settle for generalities. 2. Financial transparency is super important! What's practice revenue per clinic? payor mix? average reimbursement? Don't feel intimated to ask. . .your earning potential is attached to the clinic's financial health. 3. Real success stories represent culture. Don't let the practice owner just say "we got great culture." Find recent 'alumni' who worked at the clinic before and talk to them. Good or bad, what was their recent experience? #physicaltherapy #PT #PTjobs
