The best way I’ve found to not only simplify the development process for younger athletes but to also engrain these movements more efficiently over time is by way of Task Orientation Progressions. Task Orientation Progressions is just a fancier way of saying go field ground balls or go throw from the outfield in an attempt to throw the baserunner out at home plate or even just throwing the ball as far as you possibly can.. Doesn’t have to be complex to be useful. I have a lot of bias here due to my personal journey in this game being someone that grew up always throwing in a variety of ways while succeeding when it came time to pitch. Once I turned PRO at 18 all that deviation and variability went away as I became.. wait for it.. the dreaded phrase.. a “PO” ‘Pitcher Only’ Not the move… trust me..
