State Manager, Development - Queensland - Lightsource BP | Driving the clean energy transition & helping conscious companies succeed
Something needs to change. For over a decade I have worked at the heart of the transition to #renewableenergy. In that time I have met many amazing people from all walks of life, all political leanings. People who supported clean energy and people who did not. 99% of the experiences and people have been positive. Even if we did not always agree, we treated each other with respect. Increasingly this is changing. While most individuals are still respectful, an increasing number are not. In recent months I have heard of multiple instances where the colleagues in the industry have felt threatened while doing their jobs. Significant anger seems to be being driven by misinformation, a tool being used to drive fear based action. For me some questions arise. What action is being motivated? For what and whose benefit and for what cost? Is it OK for people to increasingly feel at risk of personal violence, of not returning to their kids, for doing their jobs? Personally, I believe promoting violence is not, and should never be OK. Using lies and fear as tools to weaponise humans for personal agendas is not ok. I don't mind what side of politics you come from. I don't mind if you support renewable energy. I respect you because everyone deserves respect, no matter what they believe. It's time we all ask ourselves what world we want to live in. What world we want our kids to live in. Are ok to accept a world of division or do you want a world of love?

𝗧𝗟𝗥 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀: While the procedural misstep of bypassing approval protocols may undermine this Bucks County lawsuit’s legitimacy, it also casts doubt on attempts by contingency fee attorneys to use cookie-cutter nuisance pleadings to extract damages from the companies behind legal products that we rely on every day. Net zero is not the same as zero -- its all about offsets. Multiple authorities are activating to try and establish transparency and predictability in the voluntary carbon offset credit market. See my analysis of latest developments here.
Manatt's David Smith, LL.M. wrote an article for Law360 about how attention on #netzero pledges—including #California’s adoption of #GHG disclosure mandates, numerous federal agencies establishing fraud enforcement efforts and media attention—may portend a growing, robust and hopefully reliable voluntary #carbon offset market. Being responsible and taking ownership of our actions can be daunting, but it's essential to nurture the strength of our reputation. Let's strive to be accountable for our decisions and actions, and in doing so, we can protect our reputation from harm. Remember, our reputation is a reflection of who we are as individuals. The dismissal of this suit is good news for industry generally. Public nuisance laws were never intended to deal with policy questions that need to be decided by Congress or state legislatures, yet those laws are being used (abused) to further certain policy agendas. Public nuisance laws have their place to deal with very narrow circumstances. Kudos to the judge in Baltimore to tossing this suit. In 2025, the Texas legislature needs to take another stab at clarifying its public nuisance statute to avoid frivolous litigation of this type. Texans for Lawsuit Reform https://lnkd.in/g83u5tUQ

The law in the UK distinguishes between the primary victims of an accident: those who were involved in an incident that exposed them to immediate physical danger; and secondary victims: those who were affected, but in a less immediate way.
