I started my career in 1971 and joined Robert Derector Associates in January 1985. I am retired as of September 2023 but announce it in my anniversary month.
This is a critical point. The U.S. government (and the Congress) can’t adequately support innovation across disciplines (defense, energy, many other areas) without accepting that failure is an essential component of the learning process. Conversely, they can’t establish effective priorities and concentrate resources without pushing to failure as a way to find success.
Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Director Stefanie Tomkins tells me that when she started in her position, she noted that many DARPA projects were in the green, which means succeeding. She said the bar had been set too low so she raised the tolerance level for more failures. She wouldn’t tell me what percent of failures she set, but it’s a fascinating approach and was interesting to hear her. I will post the video when I get it, but this was at “NATO to the Future” yesterday. Capital Factory and Station DC sponsored.
Easy to follow along, or watch all prior sessions, of this year's Aspen Security Forum | Aspen Strategy Group . Highly recommend -- here's yesterday's with Ukraine's Minister of Defense. This article provides a compelling case for both military and commercial applications of large cargo airships in Canada's north by explaining very well the current lack of transportation infrastructure and military presence. If we are serious about asserting sovereignty and improving our commitments to the defence of North America, this approach could go a long way to achieving those goals.
I'm pleased to present an article that I co-authored with Dr. Barry Prentice about Airships being used in the Arctic. Thanks very much to my co-author, Dr. Prentice, and Canadian Defence Review for publishing this article. I truly believe this is the future for the CAF. Barry Prentice

The precedent and key tenets of the 19th Century “American System of Political Economy” were the basis for the BRICS, BRI, SCO, and EAEU. Consider the cooperative and concurrent Trans Siberian and Trans Continental Railways, with intent to link over the Bering Straits, with the sale of Alaska to the U.S. for this purpose. In addition, Czar Alexander II intervened on the Union’s behalf with the Russian Fleet in NY and SF harbors vs the British and French who supported the Confederacy. Such projects, as the Space Program, along with the resurrection
of JFK’s and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ proposed “North American Water and Power Alliance (NAWAPA), are and clear, viable and precedented pathway to U.S. economic developement. Fast forward and To Wit:

Here's a few of my takeaways:
- What is a fresh butter bar?
- You need to know your shit and give a shit
- His dad was a bit too quick to lose support
- The mindset shift from craft -> business
- People should focus on themselves instead of judging so quickly
- Passion over Fear
- There is no I can't, only not enough effort given.
- Be careful how you spend money as a business owner.
- You don't need to wield power like a club to use it.
- Live gratefully.

Not my usual content but I put a high premium on truth. With lots of information flying around, I appreciate the clear information presented related to Tim Walz’ #stolenvalor. As far as I can tell, the best and most accurate summary I’ve seen.
