During my career I’ve helped sell Australian mined uranium to nuclear power plants overseas and examined the viability of storing spent uranium in the Australian outback. Many years ago I attended an industry forum at which a Federal Minister said that nuclear was the best option for Australia but would politically never happen in our life time. The pursuit of decarbonisation, energy security and cost of supply means that things have changed and we must at least have the nuclear debate. Here’s our thoughts on the arguments for and against. #chasingzero #HSFEnergy #energytransition #nuclear

Agreed - a welcome contribution to the debate . Another concern with following the nuclear model proposed is the potential loss of the nations current forward momentum and national climate ambition. The nuclear model proposed has a flavour of kicking the can down the road to a long dated target hoping for a tech and cost nuclear innovation to come along and save the day . I say the stakes are too high to take that punt . BTW the Opposition have recently focused on the potential failure to meet the Governments 2030 target but the actual result will be so very close there is a bit of splitting hairs !

I would have thought LNG would be our go to but we have not secured enough for ourselves at a resonable rate. We are also the second biggest exporter of LNG in the world 🤷♂️

A good analysis reflecting on the reality. There will not be uranium fission power reactors operating in Australia in the next 20 years.

Thanks Robert. This is a great summary and contribution to the debate that we are having. The good news is that there is an emerging political consensus around the need for lots more wind and solar. All the options are on the table, but this need not be a distraction from the technologies we must action today.
