I always go back to a #infrastructure project I worked on a number of years ago. The deliverable was drafted to be only #models to 80% and only then would #drawings be delivered with a paperless office. What happened? Month or so in, at the design meeting with all teams involved, initial #federatedmodel being demonstrated on the flashy new big screen, with what will be delivered up to 80%. Then the question from the delivery authority. This is all great but when will we see the initial preliminary sketches and drawings? Answer: This is it up till 80%. Outcome of meeting 80+ drawings and sketches produced over the next few weeks and a coordination room filled with piles of check sets on A3 throughout the design process. Can we do it of course we can, does the whole lifecycle of the project and everyone involved want us to, or have the capability to carry it out to the end, well that's still a story in writing. We can say it's being done in other countries, but those countries are not #Australia and it's landscape. Do we have pockets of it, probably, is it common practice I doubt it, only for complex junctions to make sure it all fits. I'd take a stab and say we still have a long way to go. It also does not help the terms of #BIM their so called roles and definitions are sitting in a cloudy mess, depending on where you get your information, will depend on the answers and outcome you get. Do your research, tread carefully in this technological world we now live in. Though it may look like sunshine and rose filled gardens, dig deeper and you will find thorns.
Can We Deliver Our Projects Without Drawings? I am very excited to be doing a joint presentation along with John Legge-Wilkinson at the BILT ANZ 2024 conference in #Melbourne on 05-07 Sept. We will be posing the question ... Can We Deliver Our Projects Without Drawings? Well ... it turns out that you can! Scandinavian countries like #Norway have successfully adopted a model-based project delivery approach (without the need for design drawings) on their bridge and infrastructure projects over the past 7+ years. Come along and hear; "HOW" this was achieved ... "WHY" they adopted this approach ... and the BENEFITS and COST SAVINGS that come from this change in project delivery method. Hope to see you all there. https://lnkd.in/gGFXQu63

I automate Design Construction & Estimating in one program; efficiency is the prize. I'm a Builder, Estimator & Designer. Frustrated by the existing tech, I/we build integrated Virtual Design-Build-Estimating Software.
How much detail is too much detail in custom residential construction? When projects are worth millions of dollars, it isn't possible to have too much detail. It's just important to ensure the detail is accessible without an 80-page planset. Have you ever considered ICF but then decided to go with a build system you already know? Maybe it’s time to choose an alternative option. One advantage (amongst many) of building with an insulated solid wall construction method like ICF is the speed of construction. With ICF it is possible to construct the walls of a simple, single-storey property in only 3 days! #ICF #speedofbuild #simplicityofbuild #ICFA

Waterproof Basement | High St Preston In residential construction, basement waterproofing directly impacts the comfort and safety of future residents. Poor waterproofing can lead to costly repairs, disruptions, and long-term issues. That’s why, at our High St project, we made sure to get it right by partnering with CETCO using their proven Bentoseal and Volclay Waterproofing System. This combo delivers a solid hydraulic barrier, ensuring reliable protection where it’s needed most. Curious about how we tackled this challenge? Watch the video to hear from Ben Cox, our Project Coordinator, and CETCO rep Terry White as they break down our approach and why it’s a game-changer for residential builds. #KapitolGroup #constructionequipment #civilengineering #Engineering #projectmanagement #ConstructionIndustry #Melbourne #TheKapitolWay #constructionsite #ConstructionManagement #constructionwork #constructioncompany #architecture #constructionlife #Construction #building

pre-cast and modular construction Structural Design Institute International Construction Consortium (Pvt) Ltd In many parts of the world there is a big demand for new housing. To meet the backlog, many countries have put together plans to build a big number of low cost or affordable housing units in a very short time. However, all those future housing units need to meet a range of different demands to be acceptable.

CASE STUDY: Eighteen months before construction started on the new Sydney Metro Crows Nest Station, Marr’s team was approached by the end-client, Sydney Metro, during the front-end design phase to develop a craneage methodology for the project. Leveraging Marr’s experience in successfully delivering on a number of other Sydney Metro station projects where similar approaches to cut-and-cover method of station box construction had been employed, the goal was to align the cranage solution to Sydney Metro’s preferred precast and modular construction methodology. Construction of the new station came with a number of challenges including: - a constrained site with limited space for positioning the cranes & delivery of materials & equipment; - it's location adjacent to one of Sydney’s busiest arterial roads & a built-up retail, commercial and residential precinct; - heavy lifting requirements (up to 120T); and - the construction schedule driven by where this project sat within the overall delivery schedule for the Sydney Metro City & Southwest project. As a result of the solution developed – using two #M2480D installed within the station box - Sydney Metro issued a considered and evaluated design for the construction tenderers with a suitable cranage solution built into it. Marr was subsequently awarded the heavy lifting contract by A W Edwards. “Our early engagement on this project supported Sydney Metro’s desire to adopt a designed for Manufacture & Assembly (#DFMA) approach. Then it was about aligning the cranage to that approach & using it to help secure the programme with a safer, more effective & cost-efficient solution,” said our Managing Director, Simon Marr.
