Has anyone else been obsessed with The Bear? (S2 spolier) 🐻 In one episode, Richie, a seemingly very hard-shelled and there-to-collect-his-cheque restaurant manager, stages at the 'best restaurant in Chicago'. It completely shifts his idea of what a great customer experience is, and what delivering that experience can mean to him. His experience in this high-pressure environment inspires him to love what he does and be much better at what he does. In this restaurant, the front-of-house team make an enormous effort in getting to know their clients on a personal level, and surprising them with highly personal experiences. There's a scene where one of the customers is visiting Chicago, and it's their last night. Richie overhears them at their table, saying that they wish they'd had the chance to try a real Chigaco deep-dish pizza during their stay. He excitedly runs off to the nearest authentic Chicago pizza place to order one for them. When he delivers this to their table, they're blindsided, and he's left feeling amazing. He made their day and his own. This restaurant does this daily. Customising their customers' experiences and delivering something completely unique, which is why they're consistently overbooked. Wouldn't it be amazing if that's how all businesses ran? Researching their customers in such depth that their customer experiences were this special. While researching every individual customer isn't realistic for all businesses, particularly product-based over service-based, we can all put more effort into understanding our customers and explicitly demonstrating that we understand their wants and needs.
