I wish sometimes people could see a little bit further when they read a CV with store manager experience. It’s NOT ONLY “store manager”, it’s way more then that. It should not be this difficult to find a job outside retail after spending all of this years multitasking and learning from basically every department, plus doing tasks that are not even in the description of a Store Manager position. I really feel a lot of job positions could benefit from the experience of a Store Manager. My first job was as a waitress. I was also a neighborhood babysitter. I even spent one summer as a camp counselor. And most college summers in retail sales at Nordstrom. After college, I spent over six years in the Advertising industry. Then, I somehow landed in a role as a Recruiter in the Logistics industry. In 2010, I became an Entrepreneur. And for a long time, I carried the title "Recruiter." A few years in, I eventually took an "Account Manager" role. And ten years after starting the firm, I embraced the title of President. Today, I proudly hold the Chief Executive Officer / CEO title at my company. And, maybe one day I'll be a waitress again. (I'm not kidding...) There is no "right" or "wrong" when it comes to your career path. Titles don't always perfectly align with experience...or potential. Every move that we make is the reason we are who we are.
