Reflections in Old Doorway Entry by Roberta Byram. A weathered wooden door with large glass panels is set within a blue-grey painted facade, reflecting the buildings and palm trees opposite it. A clear sky is barely visible at the top of the reflections, and the door seems to belong to a structure with historical character. An aging entry way has such character! As a photographer, I've grown to appreciate the art of bringing spaces to life through the lens. Every environment has its own story, and each detail enriches the visual narrative. Here are some tips that have guided me: ✅ Focus on composition—it's crucial for captivating architectural and interior photography. ✅ Position the camera halfway between the ceiling and floor, or at eye level for taller interiors. ✅ Use bracketing to maximize dynamic range. ✅ Arrange furniture thoughtfully to avoid overlaps and enhance the scene. ✅ Maximize natural light whenever possible. ✅ Keep your camera level to maintain true vertical lines—avoid tilting! Slow down. Explore every nook. Embrace the process. Let your creativity lead the way. What's your go-to technique for capturing the perfect architectural shot? Share your tips in the comments below!

H is for Hammerbeam! Hammerbeam roofs are among the most impressive achiements of late medieval carpenters. They're a heavenly sight, often supporting wooden angels and elaborate Gothic ornament. Structurally, they're peculiar. But how on earth did these roofs come about? I give some answers in the latest of my A-Z of Historic Buildings. https://lnkd.in/eUQwd_A8

Creating architectural drawings for an existing church is a rewarding process for us, especially because the mostly open spaces make it straightforward to map out the layout. However, the most challenging part remains documenting the structure of the attics. We carefully analyze and follow the complex shapes provided by the 3D laser scanning data to ensure accuracy and preserve the building's integrity. What truly excites us is capturing the details that give the church its unique character and historic legacy. From elegant arches to ornate facades and timeless craftsmanship, every element tells a story. We take pride in meticulously detailing these features to preserve the essence of the church and honor its historical significance. #ArchitecturalDrawings #ChurchDocumentation #HistoricPreservation #CulturalHeritage #ArchitecturalDetails #3DLaserScanning #AtticStructure #ArenaCAD #PrecisionMapping

As part of the newly designed experience at Woburn Abbey and Gardens, a new public entrance has been created. Stone piers have been constructed to receive railings and gates, to provide a welcoming arrival commensurate with the grandeur of the surroundings of the Abbey. Together with a repurposed historic structure which will serve as the ticket check, these features replace the 1960s aluminium kiosks, which always felt temporary and were rapidly deteriorating. Here you can see the new structures being pointed with lime mortar. You can see the level of detail and care that is taken with every stone during this painstaking task, it is much more than a surface level exercise as it is important to get the mortar between the stones. Mortar used in pointing is a crucial element of securing stonework, acting as the bedding between the different stones. Other functions include preventing water damage to the joints, while allowing the wall to breathe and drain properly. If pointing doesn’t allow this breathing, then the wall will deteriorate. As well as this, the mortar must be flexible to allow the structure to settle. #WoburnAbbey #heritage #architecturalheritage #conservation #restoration #historichomes #stonemason #pointing
