Recent FERC commissioner writes "With public concerns about costs, transmission advocates now argue that more transmission is needed for grid reliability. Yet, the threat of blackouts is the result of the very net-zero policies that now require more transmission. ... New technology, such as small modular nuclear reactors that can be built at existing power plants that already have transmission access, may negate the need for new transmission lines to serve renewable generators." https://lnkd.in/d64J8Du6

Same can be said of renewable using the same sites! Big Batteries can be installed on existing fossil fuels plants (within 1-2 months), same for solar, some wind, geothermal. New high tension cables using composite core has double the peak capacity so restring wires is just a common maintenance practice and done very cheap and fast. New nuclear is still not submitting low bid without subsidies. Plus, all nuclear power plants sites consume more than 1 sq mile for security! Much larger then any of the alternatives? So, what’s the real objective?

I’ll save my comments about net zero for the pub. Congestion costs are real. The use of Advanced Conductors and other Grid Enhancing Technologies can slash consumer costs and minimize the need to build new lines in some cases.

Building additional transmission corridors is essential for grid stability and redundancy. All to often everyone thinks everything will run fine until you need maintenance or a natural disaster happens

Most Americans are so ignorant. They don't know why there are high and low voltage lines and transformers or comprehend the savings of 3-phase power transmission.

The grid problems are not created by more energy production , but mainly by energy replacement to wind /solar due to their low density and location require more transmission lines and electricity "quality" problems.
