Someone told me to find happiness in pursuit, and I found it in the daily challenges of interior design. Every day is different—whether it’s coordinating with contractors, responding to last-minute client changes, or balancing budgets and timelines. Each day brings a new set of tasks, from choosing the right materials to ensuring everything aligns perfectly on-site. But it’s these challenges that make the work rewarding. Solving problems, staying flexible, and finding creative solutions are all part of the process. It’s not just about creating beautiful spaces, but also about navigating the complexities behind each decision. The daily tasks push us to grow, refine our skills, and ultimately deliver something extraordinary. In these challenges, we find the real joy of design—turning obstacles into opportunities to create spaces that truly matter.

The stars aligned today and I found myself with half an hour free to put my feet up and have a social media binge. Something I literally haven't done in years. Interior design is my passion, but it's somewhat at odds with my day job, which is in Sustainability. I had a crisis of conscience a few years ago - did I really want to work in an industry that encourages people to buy new stuff? What impact did I want my design work to have? How would I ensure my design projects aligned with my sustainability ethics? So I took a big step back to regroup and rethink and, while I still don't have all the answers, I'm feeling that flame of creativity reigniting again. I've done some small interior projects at home, took a woodworking class, learned some new DIY skills (I can install ceiling lights now!), spent loads of time in nature, and I'm devouring research on sustainability (there's a lot more to it than trees and bees!) I know I can't do everything sustainably. But I can look at interior design with my sustainability head on and make the best choices that I can make. I'm excited for what the future holds for Parsekus. #slowinteriordesign #slowdesign #irishinteriordesign #sustainableinteriors #livingsustainably

Rui Peng Co-Founder & CEO of Critical, reflects on one of his frustrations as a young designer working on interior fit-outs. At the time, the market offered limited choices: either beautiful imported materials made from questionable resources, or sustainable options that fell short in quality and design standards. This sparked a question: What would it take to create technology that provides designers with better, sustainable material options? From that idea, CRITICAL was born—meeting the growing demand for materials that consider their lifecycle and environmental impact. 💡🌱

Starting a business comes with its challenges, and it can be easy to lose focus on the original goal. My aim was always to concentrate on how we can make interior design more sustainable. However, after initial conversations with some suppliers, I was made to feel like this was an impossible task. In reality, they just don't want to be part of it. Over the past few weeks, I have attended several design shows which have been both inspiring and revealing but it can be easy to get distracted by shiny new products. It was eye opening to speak to so many suppliers, some of whom are genuinely committed to making a difference, while others are just greenwashing. After feeling a little deflated, I attended a talk at Decorex about reducing waste in interior projects. I gained so much valuable information and now feel refocused on my sustainable design journey. We need to rethink what interior design means, who it is available to, and who it can help. Normalise buying secondhand and reusing what we already have and rethink what we do with the materials that can't be reused. #SustainableDesign #InteriorDesign #CircularEconomy #DesignForGood
