Health and social care businesses face an increased wage bill as a result of the Autumn Statement; a change which will be welcomed by care home workers hit hard by the cost of living crisis. The key question for businesses will be whether these measures, together with the roll out of 30 hours free childcare to younger children, translate in any way to an easing of staff shortages. Employers should not offer childcare-related benefits. There is no reason my employer should be involved. And yet, it's a fast growing component of Total Rewards schemes. Most notably, these benefits are: 1) regressive, with everyone paying in for unequal outcomes and 2) ineffective, with most programs focused on subsidizing childcare, when availability is the larger issue. Where could companies put that money? Taxes. There is no widespread answer for the childcare crisis that does not involve the public sector. #totalrewards #workforcedevelopment

There are a number of factors that might prevent someone from playing a part in the labour market from long-term illness, caring responsibilities or just getting to work. Key ask three from our Manifesto: ‘Dynamic labour markets for growth’ explores how to ensure that everyone has access to opportunities and addresses the barriers that restrict people from entering the labour market. Within our manifesto we provide specific recommendations to the government which include: 💡To reform the #ApprenticeshipLevy. 💡Commit to funding local rail and bus links 💡Expand the eligibility for 30-hours childcare entitlement. 💡Consult on and publish plans to increase the childcare workforce. The Reform Party's manifesto is full of zingers - but what's NOT in there was what really shocked me. Last week a Telegraph journalist asked me for my take on what the Reform manifesto says about childcare. Here's my take: it doesn't 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 childcare. It doesn't mention the biggest crisis facing UK working families right now. Not one single time. <𝘐𝘴 𝘮𝘺 𝘴𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘩 𝘧𝘶𝘯𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘣𝘳𝘰𝘬𝘦𝘯?> Nope, it literally doesn't mention childcare AT ALL. To be clear, the Reform Manifesto has a lot to say about a lot of other issues. It is 32 pages long in 12-point font. • It mentions the EU 15 times and Brexit 13 times • It spends a lot of time saying climate change is actually good • It promises to help army veterans get jobs as CEOs of hospitals (?!) I am amazed that a party can say LITERALLY NOTHING about childcare in a 32 page 12pt font document. How are they not hearing us yet? <𝘚𝘪𝘨𝘩> It seems we need to make MORE noise about how broken the childcare system is. Let's do that. PS Are you surprised? 𝘐 𝘸𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘧𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘬𝘪𝘥𝘴 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 10. 𝘐𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵'𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶, 𝘧𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸 𝘮𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦: Rachel Carrell (Koru Kids)

Your Input Needed: Childcare and Tax Survey At Moray Chamber of Commerce, we continually strive to support our business community and address the challenges you face. As part of this commitment, we are conducting a brief survey to gather your valuable insights on two critical issues: childcare and the Scottish rate of income tax. Both issues are regular topics of conversation amongst our membership, the wider business community and indeed across Scotland through other Chambers of Commerce. As you will know we’ve been working on the childcare issue in Moray for some time now and whilst some small waves are happening, there is still a long way to go. WHY YOUR INPUT MATTERS ⬇️ ❗ Childcare: We aim to identify whether childcare concerns are affecting your ability to recruit and retain talent and explore potential community-based solutions. ❗ Taxation: We want to understand the effects of the recent changes in the Scottish rate of income tax on your business operations and gather suggestions for policy improvements. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ed_Yu4ms All businesses are welcome to complete this survey, not just members, so please feel free to share it. #TogetherWeGrow
