Sixteen weeks yesterday, my manager informed me that I was no longer employed by #WellsFargo after 20+ years and that my position had been eliminated. Unlike 5 years ago when I was displaced, I saw this one coming because I knew of planned layoffs in other areas. This time, I'm not going back. I am determined to find an analytical position, no matter the industry. I had the privilege of learning & using/implementing Power BI while still at Wells Fargo and LOVED it. I see its brilliance and how powerful it can be in data analysis and thus, my next position MUST include Power BI as a job requirement. Unintentionally, almost all of my jobs have included a form of data analysis and I want to lean into that since I enjoy it. I've had 4 first round and 2 second round interviews but nothing has panned out so far. Most don't respond at all. Job hunting is not for the faint of heart; it's a rollercoaster of emotions and requires a lot of patience. I knew this was going to be a long, slow road, but it only takes ONE. Thankfully, I have months of severance as a cushion so I am not in a crunch, but I'd like to land somewhere sooner than later so I can get started. Lastly, I have a favor to ask if you're located in the Twin Cities. Could you do a keyword search in your company's job postings for "Power BI" and see if anything comes up - particularly data analyst positions - and let me know? I'll be sure to put you down as a referral if/when I apply! In the meantime, I will continue to look for open positions using my usual search mechanisms. The search goes on...

Power of networking, great tips , show up yourself

I didn’t “apply” to any Data Analyst position I have held so far. 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐣𝐨𝐛 I inboxed the hiring manager based on their Linkedin post. 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐉𝐨𝐛 A recruiter I connected with a year prior reach out to me about the opportunity. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐝 𝐉𝐨𝐛 I connected with the CEO on twitter. I did not have years of experience, but I showed up to every position and gave it my best. The ancient method of networking with people, putting yourself out there and building a personal brand will always go a long way. If you’re not sure how to do this study the art of sales and marketing. You don’t need to do a deep dive, but even knowing the fundamentals will be a game changer. Note that you don’t need to go “viral” to build a personal brand or land a job. Connect with likeminded people, join communities and seek mentorship or credible career coaches. #dataanalyst
