Recently, while at a railway station, I tried capturing the straight tracks with my phone using its #panoramic view feature. I did not imagine that the tracks would look so #distorted and #confusing in the image, despite being perfectly straight in reality. This got me thinking about how #life works. Just as the train tracks seemed distorted when viewed from a wide angle, our goals and plans can appear confusing if we don't stay focused. A wide #horizon is important for understanding the big picture and exploring #opportunities, but without focus, our path can seem chaotic and unclear. Like trying to #photograph straight tracks that look curved, if we spread our attention too thin, we might struggle to see our goals clearly and make real progress. The inspiration : Byway - specializing in railway travel The project : make a motion graphic romanticizing railway travel The tools : #illustrator #aftereffects #mediaencoder The failures : Transparency around the window frame where the landscape is peeking through - probably a misalignment. Also, adding movement to the train (sway & bounce) isn’t giving the desired effect. The next goal : Fix the transparency leak, try fewer & more subtle movements, and play more with light and shadow. I’m calling these projects ‘failures’ not because I hate them or think I’m doing poorly - but because for years I’ve found the concept of failure itself terrifying. The hope is to own the process and share mistakes in a public setting so the concept itself loses its sting. Have a great week!
