Drones! Cranes! AGVs! Managed to get a proper drone pilot to come and have a go at videoing our biggest project to date. The refit of a Swisslog high bay crane with a complete new control system, and working with BÄR Automation GmbH to also program and integrate their new onboard AGV, this was also to replace the Swisslog solution which had become obsolete. The Swisslog cranes are amazing pieces of engineering and our controls design and PLC programming was simpler as a result of really good initial design. The new AGV on board from BÄR Automation GmbH also designed really well, using the customers MFMEA and project management process with Andrew Coller working on behalf of the customer to ensure it was followed, this meant when it got into our hands it was already fit for purpose. All this makes integration into the existing crane mechanics quick and simple. If you have a high bay crane system out there and the OEM is trying to charge you for an expensive upgrade package to allow them to keep supporting it, or just have no option to remove obsolescence meaning you have high costs of support and only one place to buy spares, always consider going away from the OEM. These cranes are so well engineered that we can easily and cheaply fit a new control system that has 25 more years life on it before it goes obsolete. And here we re-fit the entire crane in under 4 days, which could be reduced with 24 hour working if required.- Alternatively we support control systems that date back to the 80s without any high costs as a result. Every project is different, but taking an already great crane and making it good for the next 25 years work for the price we have has been a huge challenge but a great project in the end. This video isn't ideal as the crane has a bunch of points where it looks like it isn't doing anything... it is! As there are 21 of these machines to upgrade we are going to create a "drone friendly" version of the PLC program to get a snappier video, so definitely a work in progress. And this was the pilots first go in a crane aisle, so we have another trip planned already to practice! Only 16 more to go.... #automation #integration #crane #SRS #SRM
