https://lnkd.in/dbE3REg7 WANT TO KNOW SOMETHING Biocide antifoul is a coating applied to the hulls of boats to prevent the growth of organisms on the surface. However, the biocides can leak into the water and harm marine life. Therefore, it is important to find alternative solutions that are eco-friendly and sustainable. One possible solution is to use non-toxic antifoul coatings, such as silicone-based coatings, which are known to be effective and environmentally friendly. However, these coatings are more expensive than traditional ones, and the companies need to find ways to make them more affordable. Another solution is to develop new technologies to prevent the growth of organisms on the hulls. Some companies are currently researching ultrasound or bacteria-based solutions that could be used as alternatives to traditional biocides. Therefore, the most important thing to do in 2024 regarding biocide antifoul in marine sustainability would be to encourage the research and development of sustainable alternative solutions and work towards their implementation in the industry. https://lnkd.in/dQikMu9J Antifoul is both anti health and anti marine. So switch. Biocide antifoul, like many other chemical products, can be expensive because it requires research and development, manufacturing, packaging, and marketing. Additionally, the cost of obtaining necessary approvals and certifications adds to its price. These expenses are reflected in the final price that consumers pay. Biocide antifouling paints contain toxic substances that inhibit the growth of organisms, such as barnacles and algae, on the hull of boats and ships. However, these toxic ingredients also have the potential to harm human health and the environment. When applied, biocide antifoul can release toxic chemicals into the water. This can cause harm to marine life, impacting fish, shellfish, and other organisms. It can disrupt the ecosystem and damage habitats. Furthermore, the chemicals can accumulate in the food chain, potentially affecting human health when consuming contaminated seafood. It is important to note that alternative methods and technologies for antifouling are being developed to reduce the environmental impact and potential harm to human health. Governments and regulatory bodies play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and environmental sustainability of such products. Arivo.online

https://lnkd.in/dcaXmu-w Crazy science in marine sustainability. 1. Artificial Reefs: Scientists have been experimenting with creating artificial reefs using various materials like concrete, steel, and even sunken ships. These structures provide habitats for marine organisms, increase biodiversity, and mitigate the negative impacts of human activities on natural reefs. 2. Ocean Trash Cleanup: One ambitious project aimed at cleaning up the massive amount of plastic waste in our oceans is The Ocean Cleanup. It involves deploying large floating barriers to catch and collect plastic debris from the ocean currents, helping to prevent further pollution and protect marine life. 3. Underwater Farms: As a response to the increasing demand for seafood, scientists are exploring the concept of underwater farms for sustainable aquaculture. These farms would utilize submerged cages or structures to grow various types of fish and shellfish, reducing the environmental impacts associated with traditional open-water farming. 4. Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC): OTEC is a technology that harnesses the temperature difference between warm surface waters and cold deep waters to generate electricity. This sustainable energy source has the potential to provide power to coastal communities and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. 5. Coral Assisted Evolution: Coral reefs are highly vulnerable to climate change and are facing bleaching events and decline worldwide. One innovative approach involves using selective breeding and genetic manipulation techniques to increase the resilience of corals to environmental stressors, aiding in their survival and recovery. https://lnkd.in/dDaUkn8r 2 impactful things you can do, to support marine sustainability. 1. Reduce Plastic Use: Plastic is a significant contributor to marine pollution. Single-use plastic items such as straws, bottles, bags, and packaging are often disposed of improperly and end up in the ocean. As an individual, you can make a difference by reducing your plastic use. Invest in reusable bags, bottles, and containers, avoid unnecessary packaging, and say no to single-use plastic items. 2. Support Sustainable Seafood: Overfishing is one of the most significant threats to marine life. When buying seafood, choose sustainable options like those certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) or the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC). These certifications ensure that seafood is caught or farmed responsibly, without harming the environment or depleting fish stocks. You can also opt for local and seasonal seafood, as this reduces the need for long-distance transportation, lowering the carbon footprint.

https://lnkd.in/d8idAfAa Toxic or Non Toxic? Marine nano barrier coating is superior to biocide toxic antifoul because it does not contain chemicals that are harmful to marine life. Biocide toxic antifoul contains chemicals that kill marine organisms such as algae, barnacles, and other marine organisms. These chemicals can also be harmful to humans and the environment. Marine nano barrier coating is a non-toxic alternative that creates a physical barrier between the hull of the ship and the water, preventing marine organisms from attaching to the surface. It can also reduce drag, which can increase fuel efficiency and save money. Additionally, biocide toxic antifoul loses its effectiveness over time, leading to the need for frequent reapplication, while marine nano barrier coating can last several years. This means less maintenance and fewer applications, which is better for the environment and saves money in the long run. Arivo.online
