A big thank you to Ula for yesterday's Street Wisdom Walk around Spitalfields, which not only set the tone for the rest of my day but helped me 'arrive' back in London with the same awe and wonder kindled🔥by my time in Tangier for HoBB's 2024 event last week. I won't attempt to summarise 'Between the Two of Us', so deftly captured by HoBB's Editorial Director, Martha Schabas, in her reflections here: https://lnkd.in/eDiu32Pc Instead, here are a few things I especially appreciated... 🔮Experiencing 'Between the Two of Us' through multiple perspectives: of those attending for the first time; from speakers in preparation and those fresh from the stage; those returning to Tangier from overseas; and those retracing the steps of generations before them. 🔎 How liberating it can be when *everything* is unfamiliar. I definitely felt my curiosity and attention span dial up several levels. ✨The joy of holding routine lightly and going with the flow. Turns out the opposite of planning = dancing into the small hours, impromptu dinners, discovering diverse stories of Morocco past and present, and deep talk over breakfast. 🎬 The power of film to deepen your connection to a place. I first saw Maryam Touzani's 'The Blue Caftan' in London, but seeing it again at Cinema Rif was a far more visceral experience after several days exploring the city. Several explorative questions I've brought home with me... ~ What 'fruit' would you scale that tree to attain? ~ What's whispering to you from the future? ~ What mask is it time to put down? And comforting thoughts that I'm embracing... "Stories about anyone, told beautifully, travel." "Process cannot be channelled into an algorithm; it requires time, care, and intuition." "There is always a tale between the two of us, the key is curiosity." Thanks to the whole HoBB team + volunteers for creating a 'curiosity container' 🌌 for conversation and constructive provocation within a fascinating city.
We are still catching our breath from a whirlwind experience in the enigmatic city of Tangier, Morocco, where the 2024 House festival, Between the Two of Us, took place. Gathering at the junction of two continents, we deepened our commitment to the life-centered #economy and strengthened relationships within our #community. In the end, little separates us but our own hesitation—and when we move past that, we are capable of so much. We leave Tangier inspired by new ideas and enriched by new friendships. Moments from the festival—along with shadows from the historic Moulay Hafid Palace, sounds from the medina, colors from the Cap Spartel lighthouse—linger in our minds. You can relive them through the photos captured by João Nogueira in our album at https://lnkd.in/dstvj8Q6. Thank you for sharing this experience with us. For our part, we’ll never forget it. Our deepest gratitude goes out to our partners, our 85 speakers, our festival chairs, our incredible volunteers, and the 700 attendees who came to Tangier—the leaders, thinkers, artists, and entrepreneurs who showed us the universe Between the Two of Us. P.S. We are already busy imagining, planning, and curating our 2025 festival. The announcement is imminent—to be among the first to hear about our plans, subscribe to our newsletter at https://lnkd.in/gRWhd8gd.

SUKKOT: From Desert to Dreaming and Back to Today Sukkot may have originated in Israel but its message resonates here in Australia. Our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' traditional wisdom and deep relationship with the land provide a unique lens through which to view and appreciate our festival today. One of the central foci of Sukkot is the sukkah, that fragile hut with a leafy roof through which we can see the sky. Reminding us of the Israelites' journey through the desert, our focus on embracing simplicity and nature during this time parallels the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' practices of living in harmony with the natural environment. Just as, for tens of thousands of years, Indigenous Australians have managed our land sustainably through their understanding of the seasons and the cycles of growth and renewal, so too does Sukkot celebrate the rhythms of the natural world. In Israel, Sukkot marks the end of the summer harvest but here in Australia, with Sukkot falling in Spring, our blooming flowers and budding trees complement the festival’s theme of renewal and growth. Our Indigenous cultures teach that caring for the land is an act of respect and a way to honour the interconnectedness of all living things. As we wave the arba minim — the palm, myrtle, willow and etrog – we’re reminded of our connection to the environment and of our responsibility to nurture and preserve it for future generations. Sukkot is a time for community with an emphasis on the value of hospitality. With social connections becoming more and more fragmented in today’s world, the open structure of the sukkah reflects Australia’s open culture of welcoming others and creating a sense of belonging. Sukkot provides an opportunity for us to demonstrate those core values, to strengthen connections and to embrace the idea that true security is found not in physical structures but in the bonds we create with each other. Sukkot’s message is simple but powerful: life is fleeting, nature is a gift and community is essential. By embracing the essence of Sukkot, we aim to find joy in the present, to cherish the world around us and to seek comfort not in what is permanent but in what is meaningful.

"Icarus" is the theme chosen to inspire new ideas at the 3rd edition of TEDxForlì, scheduled for Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at the Diego Fabbri Theater in Forlì. Does #Icarus fall because his wings cannot hold him? Because he disregards his father’s advice? Because his desire to soar high is too great? Or because he uses “technology” without understanding its limits? Icarus is driven by the desire for #happiness, the same desire that drives us all. That’s why no desires are useless. #Desires, even those that seem impossible or “too ambitious,” are never in vain. They represent the engine of progress, #creativity, and innovation. Like Icarus, who wanted to fly toward the sun, every individual can push beyond their limits and face life’s challenges with #courage, embracing risk as an integral part of growth and discovery. A single leap toward the sky inspires countless interpretations, brought to life by 7 speakers and 2 artists from the stage of the #DiegoFabbriTheater in Forlì. A different way to “read” events, going beyond common perceptions and learning to observe them from new perspectives. For Prati, culture is not just a treasure to be protected but also one to be nurtured. This is why, recognizing the value of this initiative, it has chosen to support TEDxForlì 2025 as a PREMIUM PARTNER for the second year in a row. The event will not only promote cultural and intellectual growth but also strengthen ties with the local community, celebrating Forlì as a hub of innovation. It also means being part of an ambitious project built with the help of everyone, including sponsors. Visit www.tedxforli.com to sign up for the Ticket Alert and be notified as soon as ticket sales open. #yourqualityinfinishing
