My recent article for Modern Diplomacy, delves into the symbiotic relationship between cultural globalization and economic globalization. It discusses how the proliferation of festivals across borders serves as a catalyst for economic integration, fostering opportunities for trade, tourism, and cultural exchange. With the inauguration of the Ram Mandir, I explore the potential for Ayodhya to emerge as a cultural and economic hub akin to iconic global destinations like Mecca or the Vatican. https://lnkd.in/dj4Evi_b #culturalglobalisation#economicglobalisation#rammandir#pilgrimagehub

When diplomacy meets music and history, the outcomes can be profoundly impactful, as evidenced by the ASEAN-India Music Festival 2024 at Purana Qila. This festival, celebrating 10 years of the Act-East Policy, was more than a cultural event—it was an exercise in soft power, blending tradition with modernity to inspire transnational connections. While studying India's Foreign Policy at Lady Shri Ram College For Women, I examined India’s soft power through the global reach of Buddhist pilgrimage sites like Bodh Gaya and Sarnath. Historically, India has projected influence through cultural and spiritual diplomacy, from Ashoka’s emissaries spreading Buddhism to the Chola dynasty’s cultural exchanges. Today, these tools are repurposed in events like this, emphasizing shared heritage while promoting peace and cooperation. Having studied Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding, I saw this festival as a microcosm of what true peacebuilding entails—bringing diverse communities together, transcending class divides, and creating spaces for dialogue in a space that was truly democratic, with free access for all. By leveraging music as a universal language, India not only reinforces regional ties but also reaffirms its role as a peacebuilder in a fragmented world. I saw the event as a remarkable example of intergenerational harmony. Children as young as three, teenagers, adults, and even seniors in their 80s came together, swaying to the music, socializing, and respecting each other's spaces. The atmosphere was vibrant yet inclusive, reflecting the essence of unity in diversity. After all, diplomacy is not always about statecraft; it is often about building people-to-people connections that resonate far beyond borders.
