I have come across some interesting reports and data this week in the M&E space. It seems that the Hiring Demand for M&E talent is currently labelled as 'Very High' and 'Very Hard to Recruit'. Specifically, within M&E Commercial, there is roughly 1 vacancy for every 5 professionals in the industry! While not entirely surprising, it's useful to dive into some of the metrics behind it. In the coming weeks, i'll be dusting off the pen and putting together an article sharing my insights and thoughts on why certain areas/specialisms within Construction are often considered 'Hard to Recruit'. Employee Highlight: Steve S. Meet Steve S., our resident expert and multi-talented team member at Element Tempe. Steve wears many hats, serving as our Quality Manager, Safety Officer, Deputy Export Compliance Officer, and the go-to backup guy for just about everything. With 22.5 years at Element, Steve literally knows everything there is to know about this facility. One of Steve's proudest achievements is the in-house development of our solar chambers. “They were built from scratch to meet the specific requirements of MIL-STD-810G and have been noted by several clients as having the best spectrum match they had ever seen,” he says. This project showcases Steve's dedication to quality and innovation. Steve enjoys the variety of activities his job offers and values the people he works with. “The teamwork here is exceptional—everyone contributes to getting the job done safely and correctly,” he shares. The varied backgrounds of the staff allow them to tackle challenges from multiple angles to find effective solutions. What motivates Steve? The opportunity to learn something new and the chance to share his knowledge. Born in California and raised in Colorado, Steve has called Phoenix home for many years. Married for almost 50 years (wow!!), he has two adult children with advanced degrees and has had many dogs and cats over the years. Outside of work, Steve is a ferroeqinologist (can anyone guess what that means??), enjoys taking pictures (though he humbly admits he’s not really a photographer), and prefers spending time around green trees and running water. Looking ahead, Steve sees Element growing in both capacity and capability, embracing inevitable change and continuing to thrive. 👉And Humera Ma'am cleared the mess, said my team. 👉On Friday, the teamleader complained the project leader about the Jr onboard officers, asking team, if the team is interested in joining their organization and be part of them. 👉And there was a big conflict, between the project leaders and Jr on board officers. 👉My internal team learned about it and called to inform. 👨🍼I recieved a call from the senior officer, and the officer said, Humera I was present there only. I didn't knew this matter will become so big. 🤷♀️I Said, Sir, there might some misunderstanding in communication that happened between the teamleaders and the on board officers, and as they didn't understand, they might had spoken something and the project leader understood something. 👉Let's drop it here. And focus on completing the job. 🧑🍼And the officer Said, yes, yes, please Let's move ahead from here. 🤷♀️I called the project leader and asked, you knew I am travelling, this you people create in my absence? 💁♂️And the project leader shared the matter. 🧏♀️I said, call the senior officer and talk to him. And make sure the jobs are done smoothly and let the team work on sunday as well. 👉Only 20% is remaining. 💁♂️We need one more team for tomorrow, please allow team B to work on this clients project said the teamleader. 🧏♀️I asked, what happened, Your team is not coming ? 💁♂️He said, team is coming, if we get team B, we will finish the work in one day. 🧍♂️And the internal team asked, who will handle that client? Officers calls come to us. 🧏♀️I said, Let the team B go with them, they will finish the jobs in a day and from day after tomorrow both the teams will work and finish in a week. 💁♂️And the teamleader agreed. Yes, yes, we will take care of their project. 🧏♀️I said, Go ahead. We will inform the officers. 🧍♂️And the team said, Nice. Their projects are important.... 🤷♀️I said, Both the Projects will get over this week. No worries. Atleast we will have sometime for us. #shipbuilding #shiprepairs #shipyard #marine #marineindustry

I hear a ton of folks in the industry talk about how they wished there was more training for Technicians. Well here you have it, if you invest in your tech/pm and send them to this training how motivated are they going to come back? How much will you upgrade your company in your area? How many jobs could you end up taking on that you’d normally refer out to “the big guys”? It’s Q4, how do you want to look in Q4 ‘24? While you’re planning for next year and are looking at expanding and growing ask yourself what your ROI would be if you sent some of your folks to this class. If you sent a tech, a pm, a sales person, an estimator, AND your AR person…. You’d have leaders in every “silo” of your business speaking the same language. They could bond and grow and come back ready to take on the world. The greatest thing my mentor Frank Dobosz ever did for me was invest heavily in my education. He brought me to events like these. He signed me up for courses outside my skill set. He pushed me and expected me to grow. He invested in me and I returned loyalty he’ll enjoy the rest of his days. I encourage you to “go be Frank” with your people. Gather your team and send some leaders. You can do this 😁🤙

That smell was unmistakable. I was a fair distance away... would I make it... My mouth watered ... nothing like the aroma of freshly baked bread. Reminded me of how we all connect so much better around good food. Be it a site braai or barbeque, or a family moment in the kitchen. Just don't be late or all the good bits are gobbled! :) This phrase encouragement me today ... the words "fresh bread". Just like we savour freshly baked garlic bread so to can we anticipate and expect good things each day. If we are open to the opportunities, then we will see them and be able to embrace them.
