Providing community mental health services for people who have a forensic history is complex. As well as the needs of the individual, you must also safeguard the community, and bear in mind the burden on the taxpayer. Many people get lost in the system or re-offend because the specific needs of their mental illness aren’t taken into consideration. At Bridge, we are committed to improving outcomes for these people through our specialist forensic mental health service, Tilt. The DoD is not directly pursuing IT measures to help prevent suicides. The department, through recommendations from the Suicide Prevention and Response Independent Review Committee (SPRIRC), is instead pursuing more foundational measures to tackle such a difficult and heartbreaking problem. DoD is aligning its efforts: to foster a supportive environment; improve the delivery of mental health care; address stigma and other barriers to care; revise suicide prevention training; and promote a culture of lethal means safety. #militarysuicideprevention #militarysupport

What an incredible year 2023 was. Thank you for making it possible - we hope you can join us to create a more peaceful world together during 2024! Here is our yearly report: A lot has been done, and for this we are grateful. We could not have done it without you - as said in Kinyarwanda : Turikumwe, we are together! Our vision is to reach as many as possible in troubled parts of this world, giving them the tools and skills to resolve trauma, to find inner peace for themselves and to pass it on. This is achieved one person at a time and in many different ways; A single workshop can change many lives! All a workshop needs to happen is some donations like yours providing transport, food, water and some learning materials. And somebody like pastor John who will do it. Turikumwe. In Chesterfield County Jail where Kerri Rhodes leads tapping circles where inmates TikTok posts reach over 1 million views. This program resulted in part thanks to our monthly TTT mentoring meetings, and the bold initiative of somebody like Kerri, offering to spread it to some of the most vulnerable populations. Our study with DR Peta Stapleton shows that the simple certification process of TTT is enough to provide significant changes. If you are bot certified yet, learn it now and be able to help yourself and those around you with what may be the safest First Aid for trauma in the world. In our work using TTT and Havening for addiction recovery we have seen remarkable results when resolving underlying trauma. Our colleague, psychologist Stefan Sandström keeps telling us ”stop saying it is First Aid, when it often actually cures trauma”. Every social worker attending these trainings is a new ambassador for this potential. Keep sharing: It makes us happy to see how many learn and share Tapping and Havening through events like 24hours of tapping, our monthly mentoring webinars, live workshops in many countries, scientific studies with Dr Peta Stapleton and Kirsty Hodgson, the TTT book in English and French (both available also as audio), the updated Self Help for Trauma app, the videos on Youtube. Thank you for being part of this movement for Inner Peace! This is how we all can contribute to more Peace in the world. For every person who learns and uses these techniques means one more who can balance and regulate her/his emotional state. The more calm the less conflict. Keep Tapping and Havening. Find Calm and Pass it on. When Secondary Trauma Caught Up With Me! As a seasoned victim advocate, I've dedicated my career to supporting survivors of sexual violence. Over 99% of those I assist present with trauma, which can take a toll on anyone consistently exposed to such intense emotions and stories. Listening to the experiences of child victims, their families, and adult survivors can have a profound impact. Unfortunately, secondary trauma eventually caught up with me. Today, I want to share my experience and the steps I've taken—and continue to take—to protect my well-being. The Moment I Knew Something Was Wrong A few years ago, after working on a particularly challenging case, I began to notice unsettling changes within myself. Feelings of emotional exhaustion, detachment, and hopelessness started to seep into my daily life. It felt like I was drowning in the trauma of others, and my usual coping mechanisms were failing me. Recognizing the Signs of Secondary Trauma I realized I needed to take action when I began experiencing: 1. Emotional numbing 2. Increased cynicism 3. Reduced empathy 4. Physical symptoms like headaches and insomnia These symptoms plagued me for a while, and my workaholic tendencies only made things worse. It was clear that I had taken on too much and had neglected my own well-being. Taking Action to Heal Here’s how I got back on track: 1. Sought support from colleagues: Leaning on my peers for understanding and advice was crucial. 2. Prioritized self-care: I incorporated relaxation exercises, meditation, and quality time with loved ones into my routine. 3. Set boundaries: I established clear emotional boundaries with clients and colleagues to maintain a healthy separation. 4. Engaged in peer support groups: Connecting with others who understood my experience helped me feel less isolated. 5. Took time off: I allowed myself to recharge and reflect on my practice. 6. Sought professional help: Finally, I worked with a therapist to address the deeper issues. Lessons Learned Secondary and vicarious trauma are very real and potentially debilitating consequences of our work. However, by acknowledging the risk, seeking support, and prioritizing self-care, we can manage and mitigate its impact. Remember, taking care of yourself isn't selfish—it's essential for your well-being and for providing the best possible support to the survivors you work with. Your Turn I encourage you to share your experiences and tips for managing secondary or vicarious trauma in the comments. Let's support one another in this crucial aspect of our work. #VicariousTrauma #SelfCare #MentalHealthMatters #SecondaryTrauma #VictimAdvocates #TraumaInformedCare #VictimServices #SupportingSurvivors

✨ As Recovery Month nears conclusion, we want to highlight the transformative impact of our Zero Suicide initiative, implemented across Eliot over the past year. We are dedicated to addressing the interconnected nature of substance use, mental health diagnoses, and suicide risk. 💚 📋 Through intentional program design and comprehensive training for our clinicians and providers, we have redefined our approach to eliminate suicide among our clients. As a result, 85% of clients experiencing suicidal thoughts show a clinically significant reduction within just 30 days of engaging with Eliot services. 📉 🗣️ By destigmatizing the conversation around suicide and equipping our staff with the necessary tools and skills, we are saving lives and supporting individuals at every stage of their recovery. Together, we are building a stronger, safer, and healthier community for all. 💪💙 📖 Read two compelling Zero Suicide success stories here: https://lnkd.in/ecg-qjbR

September is Suicide Prevention Month — a time to raise awareness of this urgently important crisis. We use this month to shift public perception, spread hope and share vital information to people affected by suicide. Our goal is ensuring that individuals, friends and families have access to the resources they need to discuss suicide prevention and to seek help. Mind Line is a program, powered by CarePoint Health, that connects Front Line workers and First Responders with rapid access to healthcare services and community support. CarePoint Health alongside the Jersey City Health Department offers the service to the city police officers, firefighters, EMTs, nurses and doctors, and other frontline workers free of charge. This service will be a vehicle to combat the front line worker mental health crisis and burnout and will be a dedicated portal for those in the industry’s well-being. Through providing care navigation, general counseling, or simply an ear that understands the challenges they face in today’s world. Opportunities for telepsychiatry, psychotherapy, primary care, and many more will also be available with no charge for initial visits and the convenience of anonymous care. #suicidepreventionmonth #CarePointHealth #HudsonCounty

Group-based MDMA-assisted therapy as part of disaster-related PTSD treatment. “Researchers at Southern Cross University have been awarded more than $3.8 million to help Northern Rivers locals affected by the devastating 2022 floods. In a world-first approach, the researchers will implement a stepped care model to support over 200 people left with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after the floods. To date, there have been very few clinical trials focused on recovery from disaster-related PTSD. None have focused on a stepped care model. Stepped care is an evidence-based system for treating mental health, involving a hierarchy of treatments, from least to most intensive. The stepped care treatments in this clinical trial will include an arts-based group compassion program and group-based MDMA-assisted therapy. It is hoped the findings will provide additional treatment options for those impacted by future disasters.” Read the full article here: https://buff.ly/3Ut6AjT #MentalHealthAwareness #trauma #ptsd #MDMA #addiction #depression #psilocybin #psychiatry #psychology #psychedelictherapy #psychedelics #disasterrelief #northernrivers #medicine #Australia
