I've never felt so bad when booking a ticket than when I tell RyanAir I don't want a seat 😭 What's bad about this flow: ❌ Its an example of Confirmshaming - where used are shamed for their decisions when they deviate from the happy revenue path for the business. Ultimately eroding the brand over time ❌ It adds bad friction for the user, as it increase cognitive load for what should be an easy decision, therefore increasing frustration What's good about this flow: 🧠 Scarcity principle used to show me I may miss out as they're 'selling fast', adds urgency 🧠 Uses Framing of the pains and gains of seat selection, clearly showing the benefits of choosing a seat (shame they then make you feel bad for it)... What would have been better: find an upsell the price sensitive users actually want to pay for - perhaps a meal deal, a drink when I sit down, some sort of lounge experience or voucher beforehand. As usual, the lesson here: find out what your customers want, align it to your business goals and test from there. Bad UX example: Ryanair's booking system You've selected a flight, picked the date and decided on the luggage, but the final checkout process is where things get tricky for users. Issues: - hidden fees, - misleading messaging, - lots and lots of 'offers' It's confusion and chaos in what should be a clear customer conversion process 😵💫 Fix ideas: - clear indicators of additional costs: display all fees upfront, without any hidden charges, - minimise distracting offers and upsells during checkout to reduce friction, - enable easy review and editing of booking details on the checkout page (it's partly there but not quite!) - move to a single-page checkout design to minimise steps 🤔 or implement a simplified checkout flow I'll keep dreaming, huh? 😉 #userExperience #userJourney #badUX

Hello Everyone, ✨ Day 18/30: Elevating Travel Experiences with Flight Booking & Details UI Screens ✈️ Today’s challenge was all about exploring the world—digitally, at least! 🌍 I designed a Flight Booking Discovery page and a Flight Details page, focusing on creating a seamless and engaging user experience for travelers. 1. Discovery Page: I aimed for a clean, intuitive interface where users can easily browse and compare flight options. The focus was on minimizing the friction in the booking process, making it as smooth and stress-free as possible. 2. Details Page: Here, I honed in on the importance of clarity and trust. Users can see every detail of their chosen flight, from departure times to baggage policies, all presented in a way that’s easy to digest. Designing for travel is a unique challenge, users are often stressed and looking for the most convenient options. I learned that every micro-interaction counts. A well-placed icon, a clear call-to-action, or even just the right color can make all the difference in reassuring users that they’re making the right choice. With each passing day, I’m realizing just how powerful thoughtful design can be in transforming everyday tasks into delightful experiences. When Virgin America set out to make flying fun again, they didn't stop at colorful cabin lights or engaging in-flight entertainment.
