Happy 248th Independence Day to these United States of America! The Declaration of Independence was approved by twelve of the thirteen original American colonies (New York abstained) on July 2, 1776. It was written by 32-year-old Thomas Jefferson. On July 4, 1776, at end of the Second Continental Congress in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, representatives from the 13 colonies adopted the Jeffersonian Declaration — making July 4 the official day of America's independence. It was later signed on different dates by 56 men (ranging in age from 26 to 70) from the thirteen original colonies. The Kingdom of Morocco became the first country to recognise America's independence in 1777, and France, arguably America’s oldest ally because of its role in the American Revolution, followed suit in 1778. The American Revolution had started just over a year (April 1775) when the Declaration of Independence was signed. With determination, patriotism, and help from a few European and other allies, the new nation was able to defeat King George III and the mighty British military. Like many former colonies, the U.S. has dealt with many internal and external affairs — with some of those wranglings even bringing the “city on a hill” in the dark valley of despair. Though absolutely imperfect like every nation on earth, it’s a wonderment to its mother across the pond, and an example to its siblings and peers. The U.S. is a federal secular constitutional republic—it’s neither a Christian nation nor a democracy. THE PERSPECTIVE OF REBELLION AND STRUGGLE FOR INDEPENDENCE The Patriot forces during the American Revolution were considered rebels by the British monarchy, as they were seen as defiant and opposing the government's policies. On the American side, Patriots were hailed as liberation heroes, fighting against the injustice of British policies and colonial oppression that restricted human rights. Eventually, after the sustained efforts of the American Revolution, America was able to declare its independence with the support of the 13 colonies that resisted British rule. Sounds are familiar? Happy 4th of July! The day we celebrate our freedoms and our independence! In 1776, America was created as a nation because of an idea! An idea that allowed for a future of freedoms of all people (even if it didn’t begin that way). An idea that allows for elected government and elected officials and leaders; of the people, by the people , and for the people . An idea of a President elected opposed to a leader via birthline, or conquering via force. These leaders we elect, must always preserve our freedoms as Americans , and nurture and build our relationships with other nations that support and promote freedoms in their cultures . There’s a big difference between nationalism and patriotism. Patriotism is the feeling of love ❤️ of one’s country with a stronger focus on the positives within our culture, history, and alliances. Nationalism has more negative connotations with focus on separation of one’s culture and country from others. As we celebrate our independence today, we can also honor our history (lessons learned) and note our present historical significance in the world with our allies. #AUKUS #SIB #NATO For there’s more nations in this world that are ruled under severe oppressive leaders than not. With freedom comes great responsibilities, none more important than preserving peace, liberty, and friendship. This is an everyone and every party issue! #AUKUS supports liberty and independence from dictatorships that seek to take liberties away from others. Our country needs to recognize the fragility and the strength of the freedoms we hold dear, and stand together to protect them.

The 26th of January marks 236 years since the British First Fleet invaded First Nations land. It is a day of mourning, commemorating 236 years of dispossession, inequality and destruction which continues today. The first Day of Mourning was organised by First Nations Elders and activists on 26 January 1938. We mourn the attempted destruction of First Nations languages and culture, the theft of Country and songlines, and the loss of children who were stolen from their families. We mourn for those who have died and those who still suffer injustices and inequality in systems built to keep First Nations people disenfranchised here in Australia and around the world. Importantly, it is a day to respect and pay tribute to the resistance and resilience of First Nations people – and come together to reflect and heal. Today’s white Australia has a strong black history. Through it all, First Nations connection to culture, Country and community has survived and remains strong. Sovereignty has never been ceded – this always was and always will be First Nations land.
