"The Injustice of Dyslexia" is the title of Dr Martin Bloomfield presentation, one of the keynotes for Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS) #UNITE Conference 2024 on 21, 22 June in #Singapore !  Martin emphasizes that #Dyslexia is not just a #literacy issue. UNESCO has identified literacy as a human right yet there is a disproportionate number of dyslexics in prison, under-employed or facing mental wellness issues ! The human and economic case for inclusive education is thus overwhelming. Martin has shared that injustice is hardwired into our practices: many societies continue to label children as deficient, disabled, and in some cases, cursed. Traditional education systems have institutionalized feelings of worthlessness for dyslexic children. Technology and Artificial Intelligence, while offering solutions to many of the challenges that dyslexic students face, itself reflects and creates further inequalities. In many communities, some of our most vulnerable children and adults continue to be stigmatized. Martin reminds us that it does not have to be like that. Alternative provisions can produce extraordinary results. Dyslexics can actually outperform non-dyslexics when given appropriate teaching and support. Join us at the UNITE Conference to catch Martin in person !
