🚁✨ Project Milestone Unlocked: LiDAR and Video Visualization with Iris & Typhoon H480 in Gazebo and QGroundControl! ✨🚁 After weeks of dedication, I’m excited to share a major milestone in my UAV journey! I’ve successfully integrated Gazebo, the leading simulation environment, with QGroundControl (QGC) to achieve LiDAR and video visualization using both the Typhoon H480 and Iris drones. This setup allows for real-time data streaming, sensor visualization, and mission control—all within QGC! 📊 In this project, I connected Gazebo’s simulated world with QGC’s flight control interface, enabling: - Live video feed visualization from both Typhoon H480 and Iris cameras in the simulated environment. - Real-time telemetry monitoring, including altitude, speed, and battery levels . - LiDAR data visualization, offering precise environmental mapping and distance measurement. - Planning and executing autonomous missions using waypoint navigation directly in QGC. - Safe testing of various drone operations without needing physical hardware, speeding up development. 💡 This project has given me hands-on experience with ROS, simulation tools, LiDAR integration, and UAV control systems. It’s been an incredible journey advancing my skills in autonomous drone technologies. Lidar Mapping UAV & drone 3D Lidar mapping uses lasers to accurately measure the range from the sensor to points on an object or on the ground. Using multiple lasers at high speed allows a huge amount of data to be collected very quickly. Then using information from a highly accurate IMU to measure the attitude of the aircraft when each piece of data is collected, as well as an RTK GPS system, an extremely detailed 3D map can be created of any object or area. Post process correlation of IMU and GPS data, can then geo reference this data to an accuracy of a few millimetres. This truely disruptive technology will see fundamental changes in the way much of surveying is done in the very near future.
